Craig they look like pretty standard industrial gearboxes... if you contact a company called eriks they will find you a spare or an alternative with the same ratio and fixing points...we use 1000's of this type at work...when one brakes they manage to get us replacements even on ones over 20 years old normaly the same day.

Here you go Craig, all done ready for when I next see you:

On a side note, (sorry for the hijack Craig!) If any one else what's there tz85's done, we can probably sort something out for you

Can't believe that was the last show of 2014, such good fun!! thanks to John and all the robots crew for such a good year doing the Robot Wars shows.

I'm looking forward to next year, but before that I'm looking forward to all the repairs and modifications for the 2015 season. some of which will be posted on the forum.

I think most who saw the Pneumatic Muscle prototype in action were surprised on how well it performed at very low pressure. I hope to continue trying to get the performance as good as I can. and then start mock-ups for the leg mechanism.

I think the Robot scene is going from strength to strength at the moment and long may that continue.thanks to all the guys for a great Saturday night I like being a Christmas Elf!

Many thanks for the information, I have just ordered one and will see what its like.

Above is my first attempt at Pneumatic Muscle. the initial results are quite promising.
Operating pressures seem low about 40-60psi
Contraction is around 15-20 % of effective length, and the force though not measured, is sufficient to over power my or anyone's ability to stop it, so far. the diameter is 15mm and length just over 100mm.

I hope to take it to Maidstone so if you are there we can show anyone who is interested.

hopefully they will work out OK but you never know how they are going to be until you try them.
I don't know if the output shaft is that well designed for direct connection to the wheels even with the hub plate you can get for them. to get 10mph out of them the wheel diameter would be about 350mm similar to Maelstrom.

The solenoid valve may be able to do that duty cycle on paper.
But 10 cycles per second, I just would be reticent to trust the reliability of them operating at only 30psi or less when I would need at least 4 of them in a fighting robot.
It may work, but bottom line my choice, and I'm going for the rotating cam design.

Good news on the clips, I have found the clips shown bellow work well no more leaks!

Next job is working out how to make the valve actuating cam assembly.
    The fun never stops.

Using the 5 way and 3 way connectors the robot E-Knock (Tron) is wired up.

I do hope they work as they are so easy to use, and for those setting off making feathers, to be able to connect and disconnect easily, must be better for all.

The 3 way (4 off) are configured,
    1/power from speed controller
    2/power to front motor
    3/power to the rear motor

The 5 way (2 off) are configured,
    1/ power from the link
2/ power to speed controller 1
3/ power to speed controller 2
    4/ power to the BEC
    5/ power to the LED
