Robots
Rule > ROBOT
WARS > House Robots
The house robots are much
nastier, heavier and stronger robots that can send a contestant robot back to the scrap
heap. The house robots are
only allowed to come out and attack a contestant robot if it is
immobilised or if it goes into the CPZ, and then they can have their fun.
However, sometimes, they do misbehave and have been known to attack
contestant robots who aren't in the CPZ and not immobilised. Refbot, sort
them out! The house robots are Shunt, Dead
Metal, Matilda and Sergeant
Bash (the original four), Sir Killalot, Growler,
Mr Psycho, Cassius Chrome and
Refbot. Refbot monitors the battle and
makes sure that all the other house robots are behaving as they should.
Steve Carsey came up with the
idea of the house robots after watching a TV show called Gladiators.
He gave the job of designing and building these creatures to the BBC visual effects department
who is responsible for
designing, building, maintaining and controlling the house robots. Chris Reynolds is
head of this department. Recently,
this department has been closed down by the BBC. The house robots are
still in Robot Wars even though the show has moved to Five. The crew of
the BBC VisFX team have been hired by Mentorn to come along with the house
robots for future series of the show. They still have the job of building,
maintaining, operating and designing the house robots. Chris Reynolds is
still head of this team.

the two new recruits to the house robots for the Sixth
Wars.

Cassius
Chrome
Above: Cassius Chrome
waits in his CPZ for a robot to attack. Sorry about the white blob in the
middle, it's either Cassius Chrome's very clean glossy teeth shining or a
ghost - probably the ghost from a robot that was killed in the previous
battle! Hmmm, may be a robot fairy or the robot tooth fairy perhaps?
This is a very mean looking robot with a very nasty
looking, fierce face. He has one eye open and a black eye. This house robot causes the least damage
of all the house robots. He has interchangeable weapons which can be in
the form of two spikes on the front which move
in and out poking any robot which gets in his way or large boxing gloves
boxing any competitor robot. I can't imagine any
real damage being caused by this bot except for a few dents here and
there. He also wiggles his bum as he boxes and punches the robot he is
attacking.
Don't expect this to be a
destructive house robot, he is there more for comedy purposes. He is very
funny to watch just seeing him wiggle and dance as he punches robots that
get in his way with his spikes not causing much damage at all. The spikes
can be changed for bigger punching hands with more spikes on him which
just do the same as the previous weapon.
He makes
everyone who see this house robot laugh as it is funny watching him sort of lap dance rather than fight as
he punches with his spikes and
wiggles his bum. No
damage is caused apart from dents. Roboteers find him very funny. People just can't take
this mega funny house robot seriously. Well, to be honest, he is the least
serious of all the house robots and is guaranteed to cause a few laughs.
Cassius Chrome has also got
quite an interesting CV. Before joining the ranks of house robots, Cassius
Chrome has had experience in lap dancing and comedy but he is most famous
for being a boxer. He hopes to bring all his talents together to add some
excellent entertainment and carnage to the world of robotic combat that is
Robot Wars!
This house robot also has a couple
of nicknames including Hammered Ali, Mr Fista and Shimmy Bot!
He first appeared on Robot
Wars in Heat A of the Seventh Wars during
the World Championship qualifier.
Moment
of Fame:
First time he appeared in Robot
Wars. |
Moment of Embarrassment:
Being picked on during the Seventh
Wars House Robot Rebellion and All-Stars special. During this he
was flipped over, pitted, axed and spiked and his eye popped out
blinding the poor old house robot. |

Dead Metal
|
|
He is just like a crab or
lobster. He is designed to
trap robots in his pincers and then chop them to pieces with his diamond
edged circular saw blade. Let the sparks fly! Did you know that originally,
they were going to paint Dead Metal pink because he looked like a
lobster? It is a good job they didn't and left him to look like a
piece of old, rusty, scrap and dead metal instead!
|
Moment
of Fame:
Creating magnificent sparks when sawing a robot. The
sparks went all across the arena. The sparks are incredible and
has happened more than once especially when sawing titanium like
Wheely Big Cheese's wheels which created a magnificent fireworks
show!
Statistics |
Moment of Embarrassment:
Falling into the pit on numerous occasions! Also, losing Sumo
Basho in an early series! Another moment was when his circular saw
came off and rolled right across the arena during a bout in
Extreme 2. Jonathan Pearce said, "It's Dead Metal's saw, now
where did that come from?" The first time we saw Dead Metal
flipped was when it happened in Heat D of the Seventh Wars by
Gravity who took out all the robots in the arena! Also during the
Seventh Wars All-Stars special, Dead Metal was picked on by
Dantomkia. Dead Metal could not stand up for himself! |

His
tactics are to trap a robot in his pincers while cutting it up with
his circular saw. If the robot is made out of titanium that Dead
Metal is cutting up, a shower of sparks usually occurs. |

Growler
|
|
Growler has a
fierce bite with his jaws that snap down with a force of 9 tons. This
house robot can carry robots around the arena in his jaws and also
chomp, chop and crush other robots into pieces with his nashing jaws.
Growler is the fastest house robot with a speed of 17 mph showing off
incredible pushing power. Growler is Mr Psycho's pet robot dog! He first
appeared in Robot Wars in the Sixth
Wars. |
Moment of Fame:
Speeding
around the arena pushing everything out of his way causing
destruction everywhere using his speed and pushing power (not
always using his jaws) and to push a washing machine from the drop
zone into the pit squashing a robot already in the pit.
Statistics
|
Moment of
Embarrassment: A
number of times robots have
unsuccessfully tried to flip him. How could Growler let these
robots get to him? There was one time when Growler almost went
out of the arena when he zoomed across the arena on to the top of
another robot. He couldn't get off and was trapped there against
the arena side wall about to go out! Growler was the first robot
flipped over during the Seventh Wars House Robot Rebellion. He
couldn't recover. Gravity celebrated. Growler was also attacked by Dantomkia in the All-Stars
Championships and he could not stand up for himself. |

mutt’s tactics include ramming into a robot at tremendously high
speeds and using his excellent pushing power, to push a robot around
the arena. He loves to bite into robots and pull them along too.
Mmmm, tasty!! |

Matilda
|
|
|
The only female house robot. She is
designed to go in at speed and flip up another robot using her tusks. She
can also stick her rear end into another robot and turn it into scrap with
the fast rotating, sharp weapon, her vertical flywheel which can whip
up a storm! |
Moment of Fame:
Completely
destroying and mangling up Widow’s Revenge during the Fifth Wars
when
they were against Razer. Matilda used her vertical flywheel and
completely destroyed the widows’ robot. Another fine moment of
Matilda that does her proud was during the Flipper Frenzy in Robot
Wars Extreme when 4 of the best flipping robots ganged up on her
but she managed to stay upright and single-handedly immobilised
Chaos 2, Wheely Big Cheese and Bigger Brother!
Statistics |
Moment of Embarrassment:
When Razer got her in the Southern Annihilator and completely
chomped, crushed and pulverised her. She was no more, she was on
fire, smoking and all in pieces and that just shows how strong
Razer is. Don't worry, Matilda was fixed in time for the next
series as good as new. |

Mr
Psycho
You think Sir
Killalot is big? Then look at Mr Psycho, the new daddy of all house robots
and think again! Mr Psycho is the biggest and heaviest house robot ever
built. He is humongous! He has got giant claws that can pick up almost
anything. In theory, these claws could grab and pick up the equivalent of
two Sir Killalots! Mr Psycho's other awesome weapon is the giant 30 kg
hammer which comes down with one heavy blow crushing and flattening any
unlucky robots beneath. Mr Psycho uses the same sort of tracks that Sir K
uses. He first appeared in Robot Wars in the Sixth
Wars. |
Moment of Fame: The first time he caused any massive
amounts of visible damage was in the Tag Team Terror in Extreme 2
when he used his hammer on another robot ripping off the entire
panel and armour off this robot. He also has become good at
picking robots up in his huge claw and taking them to where he wants
in the arena, usually over an arena hazard like the flame pit or
drop zone. His hammer has now caused quite a bit of noticeable
damage.
Statistics
|
Moment of
Embarrassment: A
big guy like him should know how to
aim his weapon. There are countless times where he has fired his
big hammer and hit nothing but the arena floor. The arena tiles
are having to be constantly replaced since Mr P came along! Also,
one major thing to note here is that he was toppled and flipped
over by Firestorm during a tournament in Robot Wars Extreme 2 when
they managed to get under the mighty house 'bot! |

of fibreglass. |
Weakness |
Exposed
wheels and looks a bit unstable. He is also very slow. |
Tactics |
Uses
his big, giant, heavy hammer to bash down on robots. His main tactic
is to use this hammer on robots to knock out lose pieces and
workings from inside the robot. He has recently started using his giant
claw to pick up robots and carry them to where he wants in (or out!)
the arena. |

Refbot
|
|
He is the referee robot. His jobs include
watching over the battle, un-sticking robots when they get stuck together
using his plough, clearing the arena after a fight, putting out fires that
may get out of control, counting out robots and giving naughty robots
yellow and red cards. This means that if one of the house robots disobeys
the rules (for example, it attacks a contestant robot when it isn't in the
CPZ), Refbot can give it a yellow card. If the house robot is naughty
again, a red card is given and the house robot isn't allowed to come out
and fight again during that battle. He
first appeared in Robot Wars in the Fourth
Wars. |
Moment of Fame:
There
are a few famous moments for Refbot including giving Dead Metal a
red card and sending him off as well as falling into the pit and
being flipped over.
Statistics |
Moment of Embarrassment:
Falling
into the pit when he was putting Grannies Revenge in the pit and
also being flipped over by a competitor robot. Also driving into

referee a match, count a robot out when it is immobilised, keep
fires under control and monitor house robot behaviour. |

Sergeant Bash
|
|
A strong military trained robot with a
propane fuelled flame thrower mounted on a 360o turret. This
robot was originally silver but just before the filming of the
first series began, it was decided to paint Sgt Bash green with
military symbols and stripes to make him more meaner and
tougher looking. |
Moment of Fame:
Burning the old granny, Grannies Revenge in The Fifth Wars. Sgt
Bash really turned up the heat and Grannies Revenge was up in
flames in no time. Flames went up really high. I have never seen
that much fire before, it was great! Also, during one of the New
Blood tournaments in Robot Wars Extreme Series 2, he had a fight
with Refbot throwing jets of fire at him. He was given a yellow
card. I think the Ref was being a bit too kind!
Statistics |
Moment of Embarrassment:
When Chaos 2, Thermidor 2 and Bigger Brother flipped Sgt Bash over
several times trying to get him out of the arena. His flame
thrower almost came off. It was the first time Sgt Bash has ever
flown across the arena! This happened in Flipper Frenzy in Robot
Wars Extreme. |

Shunt
|
|
This robot is a strong, heavy
duty arena clearer. He is capable of pulling a fully loaded land rover from
a starting position of 0 mph up to a speed of over 6 mph. Shunt is good at
pushing robots around the arena and then filling them with holes with his
wicked axe. |
Moment
of Fame:
When Shunt kept pick-axing Panic Attack in Series 2.
At the end, Panic Attack came out with loads of holes in it.
Shunt's other great moment was when he axed Hypno-Disc's disc and
stopped it spinning during the Fourth Wars grand final.
Statistics |
Moment of Embarrassment:
When Chaos 2 flipped over Shunt several times during the grand
final of Series 3. Shunt was also flipped by Gravity in the heat
final of Heat D in the Seventh Wars causing some damage to the
house robot. He is now the house robot who is picked on the most.
He was flipped over many times during the Seventh Wars and pushed
right around the arena by the contestants. Poor old Shunt! He is
considering early retirement soon. |

to make holes in a robot with his axe or to push a robot around the
arena over several arena hazards (like the arena flipper or flame
pit) before eventually the pit.

Sir Killalot
|
|
Killalot (that is Sir Killalot to you) is heavily protected and has superb weapons. He can also
pull a lorry! Take my advice and stay clear of him! He
first appeared in Robot Wars in the Second
Wars. |
Moment of Fame:
Picking
up a robot, spinning around several times in circles before
flinging the robot right across the arena.
Statistics |
Moment of Embarrassment:
Falling
into the pit during The Gauntlet in Series 2 and also being
set on fire not only by the flame pit but also by his good old
friend, Sgt Bash! Also, one time during the Seventh Wars, his
girlfriend, Matilda accidentally walloped Sir K knocking him
causing the mighty robot to spray hydraulic fluid all over the
arena causing it to become like an ice rink. Really, Sir K ought
to be able to control himself by now and he should be able to wait
until after the battle is over before relieving himself! |
Weight |

Weakness |
Exposed
workings at back, very slow with slow turning circle and can become
top heavy when lifting up heavy robots so can be flipped from rear
(in theory). |
Tactics |
To
lift up robots in his claws and spin the robot around and toss them
across the arena. Then Sir K picks the robot up and hovers it over
the flame pit before dumping it in the pit of oblivion. |
