This is the statement of a company that builds packs and 10A+ chargers for LiFepo4.

Too bad there isnt an English version of the site, but this a 12 cell balancer/equalizer for all Lithium types incl. LiFePo4.
I have been following this thread since it started, I wonder why everthing else thats got LiPo batteries in dont seem to have any problems, I had a look round me last night, items with LiPo batteries, Mobile phone, Camera, Video Camera, 2 Planes, 2 Helis, 1 SatNav, 1 Laptop,3 H/H Tranceivers, this was just in my Study / Hobby room, nothing had any warnings about equipment batteries exploding/going on fire etc.
With appropriate charging equiptment why should there be a problem.
Just my 2 cents worth.
thats been my point since dec 05!
ive given up now, found some nice nimh
Well people dont have a tendency to run an axe through their phone or laptop.
LiPo and some other Lithium batteries contain Cobalt. This makes them explode into a fireball when damaged. They can also go in thermal run-away.
LiFePO4 like A123s are much much safer, not more dangerous then NiCd/NiMh/Pb batteries. Even when mistreated.
Apperantly its diffucult to make this distiction.
With appropriate charging equipment...
that is one of the problems. This is a new type of battery chemistry and suitable charging equipment is still quite rare. And as Stefan says, ours is a rather more hazardous environment than most.
Nice NiMH... an oxymoron if ever I heard one
oi Reid u callin me a moron? lol
15A F cells (not behemoths but i have found them too) very high rate of discharge
Craig, I would say, an Oxydizing Moron. But thats beside the point.
Running an axe trough a SLA isnt enviromentaly friendy, nor safe.
So, if there is a bit of pyrotechnics in the arena, the arena has to cope.
In theory we should be able to run HTP turbines. But Im realistic, and wont push the arena owners that far.
