everyone has their own preference and each method has it's advantages
what motors, wheel size and voltage are you planning on using? this will dictate a ratio estimate then the best method will be easier to suggest
I am using these 2 of these motors run off 6s lipo's at 22.2vhttp://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/BP389010-00.html
And the wheels will be 98mm diameter banebots blue wheels that are 20mm wide.
Why not just buy the dewalt gearbox that robot marketplace sell to go with that motor, it will be easier and possibly cheaper.
I will not buy that gearbox for 2 reasons:
1. It has been discontinued by Robot Market Place.
2. It is too big for my chassis size
Hello all, time for an update:
Beetleweight: Accelerometer arrived today - 2 weeks to arrive is just pathetic! I ordered it from Sparkfun, and needless to say, i will look elsewhere for an accelerometer in the future.
Featherweight: Made a CAD model of it in Blender 2.63, not too accurate (no measurements), but i am planning to make the chassis 400mm in diameter, to give me much more space- i just felt that 250mm was to tight and there was not much space for components to move about after a hit.
By the way, does anyone know when the earliest you can sign up for the 2014 FW Championships (yes, i know it is very early, but i don't want to miss out)?
Sparkfun is an American company, so unless you ordered from a UK warehouse, two weeks is a pretty good delivery time from the States.
Sign-ups for the UK FW champs tend to be open 2-3 months before the event, so it will depend on when that is. This year, for example, the sign-ups opened mid-January and the event was the first weekend in April.
Ok, thanks for that, it was my first time ordering from America, so i didn't know what to expect. I will try to get the FW build done by Christmas time, and then will have a few weeks to do testing.
Update time!
Sorry it's been a long time, but i've had other stuff going on so not much progress.
Shred:
New tooth fitted, and ready to get programming. Problems with the Arduino have been quite annoying but i think there is a solution.
Mini Pizza
Wheel properly fitted now, sharpenend tooth and hope to order LiPo and Pololu Baby Orangutan 328 soon.
Pizza Cutter
Had a new idea for this featherweight, the design might change a bit, picture below, please comment on what you think.
