im just starting out and was wondering if anybody could answer these simple questions.
1.my radio gear is 27mhz AM does it need to be FM
2.do u have to be a member of the FRA/roaming robots to take part in their organized events.

yes you need to be an FRA member/ roaming robots member to go to their events
As far as 27mhz goes I think your ok on 27Mhz in ants but not if you use it in a feather or heavy

It does matter - a lot! AM is far more prone to interference. You are likely to find you are almost unable to control a heavyweight using AM gear. The speed controllers and motors generate huge amounts of rf noise, which causes enough problems with badly set-up FM kit. I wouldnt even use AM for testing purposes because of the risk of accidents.
but im making an antweight with no motors just servos.
youll be grand with am i have used 40mha am on an ant it was grand

Go Ireland! Ants are starting to pop up everywhere. We now have some in Wicklow, Dublin, Derry and Waterford.

Lee, there are many antweight events which are not connected with FRA or Roaming Robots. Clearly you do not have to be a member to enter those events!
