Never knowingly encountered it.. what's it like compared with HDPE and with Polycarb?

Tad heavier than HDPE. Cheaper than polycarb.
Harder and more brittle than hdpe. Less strong compared to polycarb.

Well it can bugger right off, then. tah
Anything is more brittle than HDPE. PP is useable for us. On the other hand, HDPE is just that little better in all respects.
could PTFE or PEEK be used as armour?
Since we're naming all the PE plastics what about PETG?
I looked at PEEK, and it would appear to be excellent stuff, but the cost is eye-watering
From experience it will hold up repeated bashing into a brick wall but not to a hammer which punched neat-ish circles out of it.
Only a couple of mm thick though so in the 10+mm thickness you'll be likely to be using it should hold up.
Of all the plastics I've worked with (Nylon 6, HDPE, RG1000, Polypropylene and Polycarb), PP is definitely my least favourite. I may not have been using it in the best way it's meant to be used, but the same applies to every other plastic I've used
