threaded inserts

Hi,
i've already put this on my pneumatics thread but have decided to make a new thread as it is not pneumaticshas anyone ever used threaded insert (a screw with a threaded hole in the centre to screw a bolt into), this is for my drum spinner which is made of hdpe with an aluminium lid, i need them so the lid can be removed easily and thought it would be more durable than a tapped hole. i just wondered if anyone had any expiriance with them and could give me any feedback or tell me where they got them from?

And you have found a possible solution.

But there is 1 sleight problem. These very coarse threads can work lose in soft HDPE(or other plastics).
When I used those at my previous job, I mounted them deep enough, and welded them in the plastic.
In certain cases I used Loctite Hysol 2K glue as extra insurance.

you can always try this, get a steel nut, drill a hole 1-2mm smaller than the DIA of the nut, heat the nut up and press into the plastic, it should take some torque because thats all the robo challenge wheels are held on with a heated pressed in nut and they take some punishment

If the nut has something to hold on, that is an option.

On the other hand, as in the other topic, it's the idea to mount 2 plates together at an angle, and then a surface meltmounted nut won't do a lot.

melt the nuts in, then screw down a thin metal strip over the top of the side to hold them in place vertically with holes drilled for the bores. If you melt them in properly and don't over tighten them (I usually use a cordless drill set with a good amount of slippage) then they will be held in place fine

And how will you hold down that metal strip? With meltmounted nuts?
