12mm could be thick enough. Depends on the design of your gearbox though I guess.

frame layout:

with space for the 4QDs (which btw i am still fiddling around with trying to make work)

the mass of electronics, think there might be a problem with the interface, it isn't lighting up when the 6v is put into it

Hmm, the interface was lighting up and some lights were flashing when Jamie and I used them last, and we just copied Terry's diagram. I'm trying to think what to suggest.... Do you have any photos of it fully wired up? Might help to spot problems that way.

ill have a go but apart from adding a female futaba lead to the screw terminals, i havent changed it atall.
worst case i have to get a new interface, where could i get one from?
