Thread: Technical feather stuff

  1. #1
Hi, I recently joined the popular sport that is Robotic Combat, and I have decided to make a featherweight for next years FW UK champs. I have a rough idea of how it will look, but I'm a little stuck on a few technical details.
    1) For 12v motors bought of the RoboChallenge site (http://www.robochallenge.co.uk/Events_a ... nical.html), what kind of speed controller would I need?
    2) How would I make a pneumatic flipper?
    3) What is a good pressure level for a featherweight flipper? Maybe 10 bar?

Welcome Jarvis. I'd recommend reading through all the many many previous posts on the same topic within the featherweight forum. This one would be a decent start,

One that failsafes. Common recommendations are the Electronize, Sabretooth or Scorpion XXL. If it's really powerful, a (heavyweight designed) sidewinder.
    2) How would I make a pneumatic flipper?
Bottle, regulator, safety valve, dump valve, solenoid valve, cylinder.

Higher the better but the lower pressures have non custom & highly available components. Check the for sale board.

    2. try having a read through other threads, here is a good website about it aswell: http://www.teamdavinci.com/understanding_pneumatics.htm
    3. start out with low pressure (10 bar) parts can be bought off the shelf and it is safer

For a high pressure ram, would this be good? Its about 3000 PSI, and looks perfect.

And could this be a good 3000 PSI gas cylinder?

Ram will be far too heavy, but would work. That bottle isn't for CO2.
