I have been looking and I think if I got 2 starter motors with high torque, I would be able to do a 1:2 increase and still get some good torque and top speed?

you need to know your motor torque and rpm along with the gearing and wheel diameter to do the sums properly.

i have been looking for the last hour and its very hard to find the RPM and torque of a starter motor

trouble is finding second hand 750's, which is very very difficult

Then save up and buy em new. I usually find it's always best to just spend that little bit extra and get exactly what you need for robots. Adapting things can work but you really need to know what you are doing. Otherwise you end up spending three times what you would have done.

In an absolute emergency you could try and find some permanent magnet motorcycle starter motors - those should be relatively cheap if you know where to look, go in both directions without modding, and can make handy drive motors (Spin Doctor/Agent Orange and more recently Black Hole from the German championships have used them with success, Black Hole's did about 1200w peak and came with inbuilt gearboxes for less weight than a Bosch 750)

I agree with Gary generally though, best to get new parts and save yourself the trouble in the long run. (and part of me feels very odd that a robot Wars champion quoted a table I made :P)
