Thread: Wheelchair motors

  1. #1
I'm trying to remove the shaft from an old set of wheelchair motors to take the mount that fits onto the robot perfectly and attach it to a new set of motors Jonny kindly sold me. I'm a bit stuck with this, has anyone any idea as to how I should do it?

I'll get some photos up soon to try to help me explain. The shaft seems to be holding on the mounting plate so I was trying to remove it or remove part of it to get the the plate. It looks to me as though it would simple screw on to the new motors.

As promised, some photos to help explain what I mean.

Motor on the right has the mount on it, left one does not but I want to change it onto that one.

Yeah its the silver plate I am trying to get off.

I will give it a bash (no pun intended) and get back to you on it.

    Thanks Woody

Another problem I have noticed is that the shaft on the new motors is considerably wider than that of the old motors. Is there any way to change these over and just use the whole output shaft of the old motor in the new one? The gearboxes are roughly the same size, maybe I just have to take that larger shaft off of the new motor somehow and it will be the same as the old motors, is that likely?

Sorry for the vague questions, I realise they may be almost impossible to answer or even understand

you could possibly use the new motors with the old gearboxes. failing that turn off the excess on a lathe

Only one of the old gearboxes works. Is there nothing I could screw onto the existing shaft that would result in a reduced size?
