Thread: Weight Saving

  1. #1
    Hi All!

We're nearing the end of our build and currently weigh in at 26.5lb so have 3.5lb to play with (sorry the scales were in lbs! FW is 30lb max btw) but we are yet to make and mount a front scoop and add ears to all the sides without wheels. It seems unlikely we will manage it within the 3.5lbs, so wondered if anyone had any good generic weight saving tips?

Also how does drilling holes to save weight stack up? Is it worth it? Or does it compromise structural integrity too much.

    Thanks!

If you saw razer on robot wars all the holes were to save weight and it was still powerful but it depends on where and how big you put the holes in.

Look at using thinner materials or different materials for parts. As for drilling holes it's a right pain in the proverbial and you save little weight per hole so you have to drill many. Unless you're silly with it you won't notice a huge difference in strength.

I'd like to avoid drilling lots of holes if I can then.......

Hopefully we will weight in at exactly 13.6kg.
