Thread: ABS Plastic

  1. #1
Has anyone had any experience of using ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) on their robot?

I had it recommended to me when I mentioned I needed a thin, strong, light, cheap, smooth, impact resistant material. I looked it up on the wikipedia and it sounds like it's the dog's dangly bits.

Plus apparently you can buy sheets of it from places like Homebase and B&Q.

Can anyone vouch for it's performance before I take the plunge?

some antweights have used abs printed chassis's but i've never heard of a fw that uses it.

its been used way back in the past. The reason it's not used now is because it shatters easily under relatively small combat impacts

    Ah ok interesting......

same with perspex. Basically if you can buy the material in B&Q, don't. Even if it is suitable they will charge you 3 times as much as what it's worth. HDPE, polycarbonate and nylon have all been well proven in the arena so i'd suggest sticking to them

Yeh have 13mm HDPE as out main armour, guess we'll stick with that. Cheers.
