last minute panic, decided to put Alpha back together today, went to check it and found one motor pulling 50amps on no-load! Having stripped it and cleaned it up, checked it again, now pulling 40amps and getting very hot, turns out it had a winding gone, but you could hardly see it. So panic as it takes 2-3weeks for a new motor to come from Germany. Luckily i have managed to find an old motor with a bent case, but good armature, but its a different hand, but will hopefully fit, will try it on Friday. This may explain Alphas poor power over the last few events (years!) because good knows how long i've been running it burnt out!
