Motors with gearboxes, these are ideal - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... +DRILL.htm

Wheels, I'd advise the robochallenge wheels with the nut insert that screws directly onto the above motors - http://web.me.com/robochallenge/Robo_Ch ... nical.html

You can also find drill motor mounts from the robochallenge guys which will allow you to directly mount the motors to a chassis.

Armour - cheap simple armour that's easy to machine i'd recommend HDPE, http://www.directplasticsonline.co.uk/

Look at using around 8mm plus for some decent hard wearing armour that will take the hits from the majority of robots, spinners included.

Batteries, you could either use the ones that come with the drills (slightly underpowered) or these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12v-NiMH-3700mAh- ... 563e83073a

You will need a charger able to charge them.

...how did that happen? I've had batteries overdischarge and not work afterwards but never blown them up.

Well the ones I used in Barnsly just stopped working (do you run Jigsaw till its dead or charge it up a lot?)
and the other 2 shorted out and expanded positive and negative wires touch they blow WATCH OUT TAPE UP ALL WIRE WITH NO INSULATION BEFORE PUTTING THE BATTERY IN!

I usually run Jigsaw for a bit before stopping and charging it just to be safe. You can get away with running it until the first signs of a noticable power decrease - which in my robots manifests itself as a drop in speed on one side - and then turning the robot off and charging the battery straight away - you do need to look after lipos to get the best life out of them.

As for the shorting issue, what I do is I have matching JST plugs for the connectors soldered in to the speed controller so there's no way I can short the wires. It is definitely something to avoid >_<
