New RR arena !!

And lose the house robot for featherweights. It is so much bigger than the feathers that drivers lose sight of their machines and so can't control them. And it inflicts damage. When I put my machine in the arena I accept that it may take damage from other machines in its class - that's part of the deal. But I do not expect to have my machine beaten up by something 10 times its size.

from someone whos had there robot wrecked by major damage before, the damage didnt really bother me cos thats what its kind of about to be honest and my robot got little hittered and broke down so fairs fair, the hammering and picking up with the claw i didnt mind and it probabily looked great but what did the real damage was because major damage is so massive when it was trying to pick my robot up it was litterally crushed against the side wall- the chassis is warped and the claws were written off

mabye something just a bit smaller please lol

imstead of doing something like growler, to make it different, how about the same kind of robot but a rhino? with a massive ramming horn that'd look pretty cool and ofcourse the jaws still

If we're looking at both bulldozing and gripping/piercing, then why not try a HR like Shunt?
Maybe make it for the feathers however - the HWs would probably keep on throwing it over lol.
Maybe to try and avoid too many angry roboteers, try having a slightly blunted blade or low force rating behind the axe.
It could look good at hitting for a start, and also be effective for driving the feathers into the new hazards (or maybe out of them lol)
Also, another small suggestion if we're keeping the pit - try and get rid of those lips between the arena floor and the pit pannel.
Usually when Stu tries to lift the pit up during feather fights, he cant because a couple of feathers are wedged under the arena floor boards.
Maybe try and modify the pit so that there is no over hanging floor boards once the pit is down.
And maybe try and set a time limit for when the pit release can be pressed, so that we dont have the pit going down in the first 2 seconds of the fight.
It would mean much more fighting and technique.

How about a release of bowling ball size balls (or bigger!) something solid to add a little unpredictability, could be dangerous with flippers though haha :shock:

higher roof with better lighting shining down so its not in your eyes while your driving ...

and driver pods...

and a screen in the pits so roboteers can watch there and not crowd round and impair the drivers ....

I'm not sure what things look like now, but with people talking about the return of heavyweight spinners, how expensive would it be to give the arena an extra wall with a gap?

Double walls make a big difference in terms of any impact. If something can compromise one polycarb wall, it's a LOT harder for it to go through a second after losing all that energy and momentum.

The thing is with Class 2 arena's is not really about the cost to make it, its more logisitcs of moving it around and building it and still making it viable to fit in with the current events.

Take the RoboChallenge arena.. I believe even the small feather weight class 2 arena they have takes a 7.5 Ton truck and a van.
The current RL arena i think takes a 7.5t truck and two vans.
The current RR arena including Major Damage, 2 payto drive arenas / equipment only takes two 7.5t trucks.

A class 2 HW arena is going to severely bump up the transport cost, and build time... plus i dont think people will fight spinners every month.

I have considered it, but dismissed it as a bad idea at the moment.

Ah, I see, so it would only be viable for arenas that stayed in one place, which defeats the point of ROAMING robots.

Been looking into arena's and there construction recently, one of the main american arenas has dual layer polycarbonate up to waist level and single layer above. This arena is used for every weight class including SHW Spinners, but under UK rules the arena in question would only be rated as a Class 2. As a class two arena weapon types would be limited at heavyweight or above. This would exclude high powered spinners such as Last Rites and Super Megabyte which the USA builders accept.

So my question is would HW spinners be allowed if a UK arena was constructed in a similar way? I understand arena classification in the UK is based on the arenas weakest point, which would be the thinner upper poloycorbonate in this case which reduces it to a class 2 and limitations.

Maybe more of a point for the FRA than Jonno and RR. I'm sure insurance may pay a slight part in this but fully understand there may also be concerns about safety which I am not aware of.

Even if the thickness of polycarb was reduced for half the arena would it reduce the size of the transportation and setup task? To properly deal with heavyweight spinners the floor would almost certainly have to be made from steel as well. The robot wars arena was replaced on a relatively regular basis
