Armour

So we are at the stage of thinking about armoring our robot and I wanted to get some idea of what others have used and how it worked out. Types of materiel, thickness, different thickness on the body, rams scoops etc....

As if stands our rolling chassis fully loaded weighs 8.4kg. It is effectively a 350mm x 420mm x 15/25mm trapezoid.
The plan is to put a scoop on the wider front. For photos check out some early images of the chassis in the build diary; viewtopic.php?f=240&t=3558

We are working to a tight budget, so my thoughts are chopping boards or sheet aluminum for the main armour, and steel for the scoop. I have little knowledge of how much this would weigh. We are looking to max out the weight limit.
