The thing with any R/C Model is that you get what you pay for.
The cars at the lower end of the price range (<£100) are ok and drive but not very fast.
If you pay slightly more(<£250) you can get an awsome car that is fast and great fun. You can also race it.
If you pay alot of cash(<£600) you can get some awsome cars like the HPI Vorza Flux HP(my dream car)
The Vorza is insane with a top speed of 80mph+ on 22.2v and the world record for the longest jump at 22.63m (85ft)!
I have a HPI trophy 3.5 nitro, which I got for christmas, and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun. I spend hours driving it and will fix it when I break it(which is quite often )
Then there is the difference between nitro and electric.
if you want to go cheap get a brushed car. These are ok and gve a bit of entertainmet. These are grea for a beginner.
The nitro ones are a pain. They have so much power in them and are increadably noisy . But the problem wth them is tuning them. At first you have to tune them to get started and then after about a litre of fuel you need to spend ages re-tuning them as the engine changes. Also the fuel is expensive.
Brushless electric are my favourite. They are the cheapest to run and are insanely fast (80mph+). These will run straight out of the box. These are great for driving around and going fast, especially racing.
So as I said you get what you pay for. Also look around on the internet, if you have a local model shop go down and have a chat with them and they will also recommend cars to you. The guys at Galaxy(my local model shop) really helped me out and one guy invited me to his racing club which is awsome.
