First and second robot

Hi I am starting my first two robots at the same time, One being an axe based robot and the other a spinner my Idea for a spinner wouble be to have a cylinder shape body with a lawn mower blade ontop or the equivelent, But I have no clue how to bend sheet metal or Poly carbonate into a cylinder shape. Any clues?

build one at a time. It's great to be enthusiastic but you will realistically only be able to make one very good machine or two poorer machines as you can't put the time into either.

I also wouldn't recommend a spinner unless you have been to a spinner competition (such as the one in a weeks time at Yeovil) and seen the insides of a spinning robot.

A cylinder is a tricky shape. Polycarb can be gently heated with a heatgun and with some brute force and ignorance bent into a cylinder. Aluminium or steel would more difficult depending on the thickness and grade of material. Any idea what material specifically you are going to use?

Yeah, I thought about that not putting enough time and work into each robot. I was looking at Maybe Polycarb or Steel/Aluminium Sheeting. LOL I was thinking of modding my Steel snare drum shell into it but I'd probally need that

And yeovill is abit far for me at the moment as I am still juggling school.

Try and get along to any event first though, best place to speak to people and see first hand how different robots have been made.

I dont see the point of doing a bar spinner that way, on an overhead bar wouldn't you want a wedge on the front so to get low robots up into the blade? It would take some tricky engineering to get it low enough otherwise... the only advantage would be if you spin the body as well as the blade to add extra inertia, and then you just have a hybrid fbs kind of thing a bit like ls4... then again that needs a tough, properly balanced shell which is tricky to make.
