Thread: Best Driver Around?

  1. #1
Just thinking about how good I am at driving robots so thought I would make a thread to see who you all think is the best? Current and of all time?

Going to be hard as there is loads of good drivers and good ones at driving different types of bots.

Jonno gets my vote - hated typing that then! ha

If Robot Wars did come back with house robots I'd be gutted if I wasn't picked to drive a house bot! I'd definitely want to drive shunt as well! Easily the best house robot.

well i beat Jonno in multiple battles the other day so i'm the top driver around now right???

well Alex I think I am the best driver because I can out drive any if I can focus so i have been told. I think my dad is alright because stinger is really hard to drive so I am told I haven't driven it yet.

but my vote is for Craig Colliass he drives saint very well it is hard to drive because I have driven this one so i know

I'm very good at driving feathers (especially Mini Mighty mouse - Trev said I was much better than him at driving it)... I can drive a heavyweight, but I usually end up in the pit!

    Kim Davies with Panic Attack.

Oh you mean around. Then i say Liam Bryant. Cos as far i know, hes the only roboteer not to drive his heavyweight bot
    down that blasted pit

What?! Nah, Dead Metal was the best man
Well, until Growler came along. Then I had difficulty choosing between the two.

I think the best driver is hard to judge because everyone's robot handles differently, partly based on what speed controller they're using. I find I can control Drumroll II (Scorpion XL) much better than Drumroll (Electronize). The truly best driver would be one who can drive the same robot just as well whether it has a Scorpion/Sabretooth, a pair of Electronizes or a set of servo-controlled micro switches.

But ignoring all that, I reckon young Alex (Tiny Toon) is a pretty good driver. You can definitely see that he's improved over the years. And Michael (Explosion) shows good control too. In terms of heavyweights, I'd have to say Graeme with the Nipper. The weapon can dictate their fights quite a lot but the driving plays a big part too.

I'm going to blow my own trumpet and say me

Had to drive several different machines on robot wars and technogames (there's a reason I got the gold on the assault course) and each used different controllers and control laws. All handled differently. Then there's also the fact I had tactically run away at the start of each fight to get typhoon 2 up to speed as it didn't have the quickest spin up in the world.

Recently, hornet 2 isn't so much a driving machine as the wheels are so wide apart it was easy to stop me controlling it

Used to be me, my driving even got commented on by Matt Maxham, and i get asked to drive peoples robots a lot for them. but im out of practice now- to busy trying to keep 4 wheels on the ground

Nowadays id day John reid or Ian wotts are by far the smoothest drivers... A lot of people seem to just go full out these days and dont really seem to use there speed controller with much precision.

Anyone can win driving Beauty, even me John. Drive something hard to control like 360 then you may claim the best driver award (Dave probably won't let you drive it though!)

A case could probably be made for Jack Evans - of Terrior, Terrorizer, Terrordactyl, etc. - in my opinion (anyone who's seen how fast his robots are will know what I mean, he can control them when they're going from one side of the arena to the other faster than I can blink)

For the bigger machines it's hard to pick just one because each robot is so different in its setup, but spinner drivers seem to do well considering the extra gyro forces they have to fight against.
