    It sounds like you've already figured out what you were doing wrong, the batteries need to be wired in series to to increase the voltage.

    A quick note, wiring them in series will double the C rating (how quickly they can be discharged) and also their capacity.
    No it won't. Quite the opposite.

    Wiring batteries in series will increase the voltage. The discharge rate and capacity stay the same. When you wire in parallel the voltage stays the same and the discharge and capacities double.
