Thread: Robo Challenge - Predator

Thanks very much Shane. Yes the arms being down does make a big difference. I wanted to test it in the worse set up scenario... against a flipper where the arms would need to be up ready to selfright. We did run tests with the arms down and it was very notice able.

Properly cool, James! Does look pretty nice to drive, even at full speed. How much will the finished head weigh, teeth and all?

And, do you intend to use Predator in full combat or just for demonstrations and such?

Can't wait to see it in anger, it's really looking good.

It will be for full combat. There is approximately another kilo to go on the disc yet. Amazingly the robot as it stands only weights 8.5kg so there is 5kg to add the tooth ring, finish the arm mech and armour the robot up so im really pleased.

Does the moving tail have a purpose or is it just for show?

Thank you for the comments, its really appreciated.

The tail is part of the machines shape to finish it off. it also serves 2 purposes. If Predator is caught up the tail does have a bit of lift in it to help it free its self. Also the electronics are originally designed to be in the tail. This would bring them as far away from the disc as possible to reduce the shock going through them from disc impacts. As space is quickly running out the speed controllers are now above the drive motors. The tail will house the link, the arm mechanism and maybe the head esc.
