ROBOT WARS - THE LEGENDS SPECIAL
==========
----------
HEAT A
----------
Welcome to Robot Wars - The Legends Special. This is a very special tournament, which involves no champions, no grand finalists and no semi-finalists - instead, we have some of the most pluckiest most determined robots ever in the series, who have NEVER made it out of the heats before, fighting it out to finally accomplish that one dream they never had, and reach the Grand Final.
The way this works is very simple....to explain. Our robots have been divided into two three-way melees and one robot is eliminated from each. So lets check out the first battleboard.
HEAT A
Diabolus vs Infernal Contraption vs Hard
The Steel Avenger vs Iron Awe 2.1 vs IG-88
Are we sitting comfortably? Then....
LET THE WARS BEGIN!!
----------
ROUND 1
----------
FROM THE ISLE OF SHEPPEY - DIABOLUS
This machine was knocked out quite easily in Round 1 of the 7th wars, trashed by X-Terminator and Tsunami. The team also competed in Series 5 with Kliptonite, which performed just as badly.
This is a box shaped robot, quite fast around the arena, with two very nasty horizontal spinning discs, designed to rip into the armour of other robots. It's invertible - it can run either way up in other words, but its armour is very weak on the top and side.
FROM BELGIUM - HARD
This robot has fought in the UK, Dutch and World Championships, with no great success.
This small wedge shaped robot is as tough as its name suggests. Its armour is almost indestructable and its size makes it difficult to get hold of. It has a flipper arm as its main weapon and can run upside down if it needs to, but it is not very reliable.
FROM LONDON AND LINCOLNSHIRE - INFERNAL CONTRAPTION
Knocked out in Round 1 of the 6th and 7th wars.
In many ways, this machine resembles Grand Finalist Stinger, which is no suprise, as team captain Jonathan Pillai used to drive that robot. Infernal Contraption has a 16kg spinning drum that spins at 1000rpm, and as an added bonus, it gets up to speed in only three seconds, so they don't have to wait between attacks. I don't trust the reception though.
ROBOTEERS, STAND BY
Booth 1 - Hard, Infernal Contraption
Booth 2 - Diabolus
House Robots - Shunt, Dead Metal
3....2....1....ACTIVATE!!
And the Legends Tournament is off and underway. The three charge straight into the centre of the arena. Infernal Contraption rides straight up the front of Hard and rolls over. That won't bother it, it's fully invertible. Diabolus tries its luck on Hard, and the blades cause some nice sparks, but frankly very little else. Hard pushes underneath Diabolus and flips it up...not over though. In comes Infernal Contraption....OW! The disc strikes Diabolus in the side and knocks it up even further. There is now a nasty scratch on the side of Diabolus. Diabolus turns to try and get its blade into Infernal Contraption, but the two flywheels end up meeting!
CLANG!!
Oh, and DIABOLUS HAS LOST A FLYWHEEL! One of its saw blades has broken off completely! That is not good news! Hard now comes in from the side, burrows underneath Diabolus and pushes it across the arena into a CPZ, and that's where Shunt lurks!
CRASH!
The axe goes straight through Diabolus' top armour. The team said they thought it might be a weakness. Infernal Contraption strikes Hard in the side, knocking the Belgian machine around, but it lands right way up. Shunt meanwhile pushes Diabolus out of the CPZ and back into the action, but it doesn't quite look so active and strong now. It limps back into the arena centre, only for Infernal Contraption to strike again...
CLANG!!
The other disc breaks off! Diabolus is toothless, defenseless....gutted, really. Hard pushes the pit release button. Infernal Contraption hits Diabolus again! This time it looks like a side panel is breaking away! The Diabolus team seem to know their game is up. It is now only just moving. Hard comes in from behind and pushes it....all the way to the Pit. Down and out.
CEASE!
That was a Diabolical fight for Diabolus.
Hard and Infernal Contraption go through!
Next Time - IG-88 vs The Steel Avenger vs Iron Awe 2.1
