Thread: Where should I put link for a thwackbot?

  1. #1
Where would a good place be to put the link? Should it be at the front of the bot?

    Safety concerns:

Front: When link is put in, robot may go backwards, making the hammer go down onto the person.

Back: Waaayyy too close to the hammer/axe.

Side: Maybe, but the person may get run over by the wheels.

Top/Bottom: Yet again, there's the concern for the hammer.

Obviously, I'll have covered the sharp point of the hammer, so it will minimise the blow, but it's just the power which is my worry.

Anyone know which place would be good to put it?

If the thwackbot is similar to St Hammer then the only place is on the top plate, half way between the wheel and the hammer shaft position, on the Seraphim a similar position is used.
    Next event have a look.

    This a featherweight yes?
If so, a small cradle that the robot rests on in the arena keeping the wheels off the floor (just like in the pits) so that if you have the link at the front and put it in and the wheels spin, they at least wont make the hammer come over onto whoever is arming it up?

Thanks for telling me this. Since it is going to be on a cradle, then I'll have it at the front, as far away as possible from the hammer.

On the link below you can see the hatch that covers the removable link, this is an old photo on the latest cover the link has moved towards the wheel about 50mm, hope this helps.
