A statement from Robot Arenas Ltd

Following the 2004 World Championships the Robot Wars arena was stored at RAF Newton by Robot Arenas Ltd, in March 2005 the set was scrapped by new owners when they took on RAF Newton.

For the last 5 years, Robot Arenas has been fighting a case to try to recover the rebuild cost of the set as we believed that the owners had acted wrongfully in the destruction of the set, and we had a view to using the funds to return the concept to the mainstream.

Sadly, despite doing all we could and taking the case all the way to the high-court, the judge decided that it was actually immaterial whether or not the owner was or was not negligent in destroying the set. In his view the set had little/no commercial value, he believed that the sport was €˜dead€™ and that it was nothing more than a €˜historic memento€™.

It should be noted that the article in the Telegraph does not give the full story. Robot Arenas had not left it in an unlocked building, and Robot Arenas responded within 24hrs to a request to move the set following the handover of the site to new owners.
