Thread: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - Robots Live!

  1. #1
    Hello Roboteers,

Well another year over and some great events. So first of all congratulations to all the winners over the year, and Terrorhurtz the new FRA UK Champion.

Whitwick: We kicked off the year as usual at our home event, this year proved to be abit different with the chaos of the snow. The weather seriously effected ticket sales, and made running the event even more challenging, with crew being stuck around the country, having to fetch the truck from Sheffield as there driver wasn€™t on sure on driving it in the weather! Vehicles sliding and getting stuck on the car parks, but all turned out well and we€™ll be back next year to kick things off.

Burgess Hill: Just as chaotic as Whitwick, with this time my van blowing up on the M1 at Northampton on the way down, which meant a very late night for me and Mike having to drive back up to Northampton after unloading on the Friday and getting bed about half 3 in the morning. But once again our flagship event proved to be another great event and a big thanks to Marc Dermott for stepping in and hosting the show, all those years as a bluecoat paid off!

Reading: Probably the least chaotic, but the most work, with the smallest crew we have ever ran, but the least successful ticket wise. But things went smoothly and we put on another 3 great shows for the fans. A big thanks to all that helped setting up and taking down, we managed to get out by 9pm (if we ignore the minor mishap with the truck keys!).

As you may be aware we also do other events through the year, we were at the Leicester Space Centre in June, Northampton Town Centre as part of their science week, and couple of Expo events at Telford and the NEC.

A couple of serious bits; as you may know we tried running a donation box for CO2 at Reading, which basically didn€™t work (big thanks to the two teams who did put some money in) we€™ll try it again at Whitwick, if it doesn€™t work we€™ll have to look at putting a fixed charge on it, something we don€™t want to have to do. Just to give you an idea of cost, our gas bill for Reading was about £400. Also we€™re constantly on the lookout for more crew, so if any bodies interested on giving us a hand at event (no matter how much/little) give us a shout.

    On to next year and its already looking busy for us, dates for your diaries;

28th Dec: Snibston Discovery Park (Static + Ants)
20th Feb€™: Midlands Expo, Telford (Small restricted show)
    27th & 28th Feb€™: Robots Live Leicester - Major Event
    27th & 28th March: Memorabilia N.E.C. (Small restricted show)
24th & 25th April: Robots Live Burgess Hill - Major Event
22nd & 23rd May: Robots Live Norwich - Major Event
19th & 20th June: Medium show (Scotland) TBC
    October (ish): Major Event TBC
    20th & 21st Nov: Memorabilia N.E.C. (Small restricted show)

There are some exciting new events in the pipeline, plus returns to previous ones, more details when available. The Norwich event will be slightly different, with 4 shows and different competition format should make it very interesting and fun.

Finally a few thank you€™s to all that have helped us out over the year; Ed Wallace, Adam Henderson, Dave Weston, Marco Roberts, Ed Hoppitt, Dave Gamble, Mike Hamilton-Macy, Ian Watts, Ray Tait, Marc Dermott, John Bell, Dave and John Lang, Craig Colliass, Big Nipper guys, Simon Windisch, all that helped at Reading and anybody else I€™ve forgotten. But of course a big thanks to all teams that attended any of the events.

That€™s all for now, so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone and will see some of you at Snibston on the 28th.

Yeah! If the event up here gets confirmed you can count me in on that one, provided it's not taking place as far up north as somewhere crazy like Jonno Groats (see what I did there, I R funny )
