definitely enter an event, you meet some great people and everybody is very helpful and dosent mind you constantly;y asking what happens next for your first few events, i think i drove Dave insane with that very question .
Even if you instantly get immobilized or flipped out, its a great feeling to get something mooving in the arena.
Yeah, even if it all goes baaaaaad you'll have a great time :-)Originally Posted by muchalucha
ok thanks il get to one once my robot is done, even if its just to watch.
im going to build a lightweight, partly because im building it with my brother and he wants something with a bit of power.
or the motors i picked up 2 of these scooter motors:

what battery's and speed controllers should i get for these motors?
I dont think that was a good idea . Gearing scooter motors and attaching it all to wheels relaibly is a big big undertaking unless you have very extensive experience with gearing and low voltage dc motors (its unlikely ) It will be a lot more difficult than you think to get a rolling chassis. Id recomend at least one bot with blue wheels and drills, once you feel that you know people that can help you with the scooter motors and you have looked inside pinser (that uses scooter motors i think identical to the ebay ones), then sell or store the drill motors and begin replacing it with scooter motors. As for the batteries, 2 7.2 V nicads or a 12 V sla battery.
hmm ok il have a think about what to do about that.
Best to build a feather, not a lightweight, because there are very few lightweights and so it will be very hard to get fights.
ok but i have already paid for the motors for my robot so i might make a lightweight and see if i can lower the weight to make it feather if needed.
does anyone know of any speed controllers that can take the 24v? also does anyone know of a 24v 100 watt battery (if that is what i should use?).
hi there wow I cant believe 2.4g setup is £40 come down loads in price, wonder what the output mw is ? just noticed you were going for a lightweight, well at most events they run
heavys or featherweights so you wont be able to compete with a lightweight.
most roboteers for f/w use sub c stickpacks about 3-4 amps for their batterys,
nice and simple !
ok thanks, do you think i could use just one for each motor or should i connect more for each motor?
EDIT:
i found these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ink:top:en
do you think two for each motor will be ok for FW using those scooter motors?
