hi all

i recieved my victor 885 today

with the fan cables do people just attached them to where they connect say the victor power wires? just asking as they are really thin compared to motor wire

Yep, attach the fan cables to the battery conections on the victors, not the motor conections.
Note, don't cut them too short so they are tight, leave a little slack in the fan wires and put a drop of glue at the point were they pass into the fan body.

Also maybe consider, before a competition, putting a drop of hot glue on the PWM booster cable where it plugs into the Victor. It's a measure against the plug popping out in battle after an impact, but it's also semi-permanent, so should you need to remove the plug at any time you can just peel the glue off and unplug the cable.

the reciver cable which way round does it go? (colours i mean)

The controller should be marked at the connection with W R B (White, red and black) slightly raised in the plastic. These are the standard futaba servo colours.
