Heard on the radio business news this morning that the Australians are shipping iron awe out of western australia to china. How is it going to compete in the uk champs if its in china? or is it a cunning plan by other teams scared of its flipper?

Tom, as a catholic i really do hope you use your A* RE GCSE in life well
maybe become a priest?
what is it that you do dave?
Same here Dave - but too many years ago to mention.
Did a student apprenticeship from O-levels and got to College by getting distinctions in ONC - dont know what todays equivalent is.
Was paid full wage and all college fees, but like Jamie, all I studied was theory - the dis-agreements I had with lectururers really got me down although I passed all my exams. From doing 2 years practical work I was transferred to the offices and I hated every minute of it. So after 2 years I dropped out and went back to the floor and finished my apprenticeship. Quite truthfully I dont regret a thing, but if I was advising myself now I would talk me into completing the degree.
I was dismayed when a colleague of mine applied for a teaching post and the first question was what is your degree in not what can you bring to the position. Without a degree the conversation came to an abrupt end.
But not having one has not affected my working life - I have never been turned down for a job yet - and Im not being big-headed. Good tradesmen are extremely rare and at the time you could not be both, which sounds crazy now, but was the norm then.
One advantage is that when the engineers try to talk theory I can smell the bull****.
Jamie - stick it out, youre half way there, take a year out if you can, but dont give it up.
Back to you Swanny
Maintenance engineer.. do most things atm, had alot of training this year, but ive managed to skip most of it.. such as units like welding, turning milling etc all the basic stuff i already knew how to do.. im doing floating between PLC programming, industrial electronics and CNC work atm...(which is nice because i just fixed a nice CNC machine and theyve told me to run some test programes..robot parts lol) I work for LDV- the van company- kinda poo but they want me to be one of the robotics maintenance team for now, then they pay for me to a degree then i can do whatever i want after that..they asked me if id want to move to russia to design tanks.. said not really lol Its an alright job though, and has a decent pay rise every year im there lol but- as stu pretty much suggested.. an even bigger pay rise once im qualified
sounds good dave
i was going to do mechanical and electrical engineering and then you pick your best one at the end of the yr but my dads place didnt want me the fools! lol money was amazin as well i thought, was 10k 1st yr and then jumped up to i think like 22k during the 4 yrs
all the ppl who had dads there and tried to get jobs didnt and were the 1s who would get trained at college and at home by our dads so they missed out lol think there was 6 of us
my dad should of got a degree tho so he could of become station manager! he knows all the rubbish but hasnt got a degree but he likes the stressless life and thats what he has lol apart from living with me :P and my 3 sisters robbing all his money! i get nothing  u should all tell him to start spending money on his only son and not the useless women in my house who should be doing the ironing cooking and cleaning! lol ill now get some abuse from the women on the forum :P but ye dad ull prob read this if u bother to and u should spend more on me :P
