The Magnum775 Planetary Gearmotor.

It is quite expensive, and is in the USA, so it's out of the question then and there, unless anyone knows a UK supplier? Or something similiar atleast.

What I really want to know is, if I bought 2 of these: http://www.robotpower.com/products/magnum775_info.html
Would that be better for a pushy featherweight than 4 cordless drill motors?

Obviously, the drill option is BY FAR the cheaper one, but would it be worth paying the extra money?

I have used drill motors for the past 3 years in feathers and had a bit off sucsess, but have now changed Beauty2 to speed 900s and a 2 stage gear ratio (see mario for them it will cost at least £100 but I am sick of changing drill motors have gone through at least 25 in 3 years it all depends what u want.

On the planetary gearmotor......

I use an exact setup in Mini Mighty Mouse, if I had known these were on the market it would have saved the hassle of making them myself. The torque is tremendous, and they are very compact and complete, connect the drive wheels directly to the output shaft and you will be running. The square mounts also make it ideal for bolting directly to a base plate.

These gearmotors are great. They are expensive compared to hacking your own drillmotors, but I say it is money well spent.

So, 2 gearmotors, would be equal 4 drill motors!?

I concour with Trevor & Leo on this one, this is a far better option than hacking 4 drill motors. I use something like them in Pillow Torque, a motor/planetery box arangement directly driving one wheel and a pully/timing belt to drive the other wheel on that side.
One of the advantages of this design is the huge saving in the space needed for the drive system, one motor/gearbox at each end of the machine instead of one at each corner. With a bit of fancy design you can almost half the width of the machine with all the weight saving that goes with it!
As for power, looking at the specs a pair of these will have more than enough for a very respectable pusher.
The other advantage is having a 1/2 keyed shaft it is very easy to attach wheels / pullies
I would recomend these wheels, very strong and already have the correct bore and keyway.
