Tamiya Connectors

Hi All

I have replaced my lead acid battery for Pug (The one u saw falling out at Barnsley) for 2 x 7.2v 3700mAh NiCad packs from Technobots, which both have Tamiya connectors which are flat sided. I need a Tamiya connector with a lever on it and have found out that there are 2 times of Tamiya connectors, Male and female ones, are the flat sided ones the female ones and the ones with the levers called male ones?

Yup, the levered ones are the male ones and are the ones you'll need to connect to your battery pack female plugs.

May i suggest replacing the Tamiya connectors with something more battle friendly , the pins are normally quite loose, and when i used Tamiya connectors i was forever loosing power for a second and then having to wait 5 seconds for the esc's to sort them selves out , maybe its just me , but Tamiya connectors always seem to fail in the arena with me.

I must say that I agree with Tom's point. I previously used tamias for my batteries, and had them jolted out of place several times, and the fact that each connector is double pole (+ and -) means that connecting two batteries in series you need four connectors rather than two anderson connectors. I personally think that anderson single pole connectors or bullet connectors are best, but it depends on what sort of connections you wish to make in your robot.

Tamiya connectors served me well at first, but as they got connected and disconnected more and more (and transferred between different robots etc) I had similar problems in that the power would occasionally cut out, or the power would only stay on if I wiggled the connecters a certain way (even then it would cut out as soon as I let go of them)

If it's within your budget I'd recommend Deans connectors. I've used them for a while now and they're pretty rugged little connections. More expensive than Tamiya connectors but worth it in a battle. I got mine as a pack of 10 from Hong Kong off eBay.

So with that buyer it works out as £1 per pair (1 male, 1 female) and its not often you get packs of 10 in the UK (usually they're from abroad) so its not too bad a deal. I'm considering getting myself some more now

i have bullet connectors for the batteries , and everything else is soldered and wrapped in plenty of insulation tape.

Deans ultra connectors and 4mm gold contact connectors ( http://www.e-flight.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=62 ) are best suited for a strong connection and high power troughput. I only use Tamiya in my RC cars and even there I am considering moving to deans.
