Thread: Metal???

You can use metal armour any thickness you like (it used to be maximum of 1mm but that was removed at AWS26) but as the rules currently state you can only use a continuous metal covering on a third of the robot, if you screw plates together it should be fine. The continuous plate rule should have been removed by now - there's a considerable majority against keeping it - but there's been a few admin problems with offically removing it :P

1.5mm ali might well take you over 150g to be honest though, and not provide much protection (I'd look into some 0.3-1mm titanium if you want spinenr proof armour)

Just to inform you guys, the metal rule has now been removed, you can have a 1 peice chassis/shell now like Ant Awe 6 or Team Tiny Toons ants

To be fair jack, Archie was just using an old thread instead of making a new one. Notice he is ASKING if Ti is cheap.

Archie: Ti is not really very cheap, I have a few bits if you want some. As jack said You will need some good tin snips and possibly a dremal to work it into shapes. Bending it too sharply may cause it to snap.

I apologies guys, i miss read what Archie posted, it was late and i had been busy reading through all the other bumped threads

Anyway yeah, as Dave said, you will need some decent tools, tin snips may do in a pinch, a dremel will work well, a bandsaw would be ideal. but im guessing you dont have access to that so a pair of tinsnips or a rotary tool would best suit your needs. alternativly there are plastics you can use that are strong and much more easy to work with, and pretty cheap.
