No custom parts whatsoever! I wanted the veiwer to know they can do the same without extra hassle. All electronics are official Lego Power Function parts, from transmitters to actuators. Though I did toy with the idea of having paper/cardboard shells/armour...

I remember Lego Robot Wars, it inspired me to make a series of my own years back, it was called Roblock Wars, sadly it was short lived but it did give me a taste of robot building.

It had two series which was only two videos, but it was one of my most popular videos on my old channel (back before I started to focus on animations full time). sadly that channel is gone now.

I had made a ton of lego bots but only 7 made it to the 'official' Roblock Wars series:
    series 1:
    killer
    techno fork
    run
    hit
    series 2:
    killer
    techno bot (techno fork 2)
    junk
    hit (2)

fun fact my ant weights Alpha-wolf and Killer-wolf's design is based on what would have been Killer 2 so you could say it has come full circle.

Although if I remember correctly there was talk of a Roblock wars vs. Lego robot wars but that fell through.
