in the rex's robot challenge FW tutorial

    here :

I want to use the pneumatics system as high pressure pneumatics are way out of my price range. My question is , as i have never dealt with pneuamtics before i want to know if it is ok to enter into a fra event . I have read through the rules on pneumatics but im really not sure whether it would pass tech check from a general safety point of view.

    any help appreciated tom .

I'm pretty sure that you can use this type of system as long as the pressure does not exceed 50psi.

seeing as your saying that high pressure pnumatics are way out of your price range, why not just go for low pressure pnumatics?

for my feather flipper im working on at the mo, all my pnumatic stuff has cost around £200-250 or something like that- and even i brought certain parts every couple of weeks as i wouldn't have been able to afford them all in one go. before i got all my parts i didn't have a clue about how everything went together, but theres some great helpful sites and people out there. and once you've done a bit of browsing on the internet it all seems alot simpler.

i think it would surley be easier to make a low pressure flipper with all the main parts pretty much ready made, then having to alter bike pumps and pop bottles and if i remember rightly from when i used to have the magazines- the pnumatic system can only lift a couple of house bricks at most.

and you would have to have a dump valve, and a pressure gauge as far as i know is optional although im using one to be on the safe side.

What your after is a 3/2 valve then..

I did somthing similar when i first started out..

Got a medical 3way valve n screwed it onto a servo.. it worked fine but was abit of a bodge.

And yes your allowed pop bottles and such upto 4bar or 50psi.

Id suggest saving your money on a ball valve and save up for somthing like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PNEUMATIC-DIRECTI ... 7C294%3A50

then you can just use a servo and micro switch to fire it. You could also use the exstra port for a return on the ram if you wish in the future.
