    What does the brushless typically pull nowdays, Dave? You were peaking over 300a when you first tested this, I think? That's ~6kw on 5s, which sorta blows my mind.

    300A on spool up on that low a voltage is likely getting super low efficiency. I'd expect the actual output at that range to be something like 3.5kw at most and the rest being burnt off in heat. As its hitting 300A for such a short time there's no real heat build up in the motor.

    Yeah I figured it might be pulling that but actually turning a small amount into kinetic energy. Even at 50% efficiency that's more than my cheapo motor is rated for at peak total pull - will be interesting to see how the Hobbyking-level motors (and speedos) run this year.

    Wasn't long ago a single s900 made for a respectable weapon motor, so I'm not worried about grunt, just reliability. Think they've improved a lot in the past 18 months.

    What grant said... Most of it gets turned into heat, but as I generally only spinup 0-100% once or twice in a fight you can't really tell... After a 3min fight the brushless was still not much more than room temperature which amazed me.

    Well… a lot of people are doing updates thick and fast to there build diarys and flapping that there not ready so i thought id post where im at;

    Got bored so took it all apart, re greased the gearbox's- messed about with the brushless motor a bit, and loctited everything and put cable ties around connectors etc;

    have a few people comment on how small 720 is… this is how… the electronics are very compact in the back;

    I noticed the amount of axe's signed up… decided to make a HDPE lid to go on top of the titanium just incase;

    Liked how the pits operation got compared to F1 style this year… i cant change the wheels in 3 seconds, but ive got a decent amount of spares this year… no spare chassis, but i presume john lear will have enough to go around on the day lol…also got a spare tz85 on its way from Aus which Nick kindly said he'd bring for me;

    current weight with the stainless wedges and the hdpe lid added is 13.57kg… 30g's to stick some foam in the top over the lipo, then just need to stick it all in the car….don't know how I'm going to fit it all in before next wednesday but ill try my best

    How come you have so many spare wedges? They look like the last part that would break...

    If the pits have to be run like an F1 race, are we getting F1 grid girls too?

    He can change sets to get the drum even closer to the ground and in case they get chewed up my another spinner. Even if its just the leading edge that gets bent then they are useless. And because he can :-P

  9. #859
    Nah they all started of the same height- although the nylon ones I had fitted last year are worn down and now the drum only has 1mm of ground clearance... I got 2 sets of stainless ones that I'm keeping back to fight wedge bots with, no point blunting them off against robots that don't even have a wedges
