Thread: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!

  1. #51
...well...call me an unreformed caveman but my personal opinion is leaning slightly towards the flyers.

I accept your reasons for having this the way it is - I still do think it's a bit of a ridiculous sponsor request, but that's probably due to my na¯vet regarding how robot events work :P - but it still disappoints me greatly, there was nothing in the run up to the announcement to suggest that the drag racing would be a requirement to participate in the main event and it's probably partially my mistake for allowing myself to get excited over what would have been my first event before I knew what the entry requirements were.
I'd have gladly paid five or even ten times the entry fee in the interests of helping you guys to turn a profit and not having to tack it on to the racing, but...the drag racing is just not something that holds any interest for me I'm afraid, it's not really so much an issue of cost as it is of time and general 'botheredness' and as a result this whole affair has left a rather bitter aftertaste, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that.

...there's always Reading in October I guess though...good luck to everyone that goes, and I hope a good time is had by all, but I shall not be attending.

Oh, so its just £10 to enter both the racing and the champs?

Or £10 to enter the champs, and £10 for the drag-racing entry? (under the entry fees section on the PTDR rules page of your website)

I thought it was the latter at first, but since you've worded it £10 and a couple of hours work gets you etc, just thought I'd ask for clarification

And on the mention of camping, is there likely to be a dedicated campsite, or are there just several locations nearby?

    Thanks

Yaaas, Ring of Fire for the win!

Sorry it has put you off Joey, It really isnt alot of work to change a plug on a belt sander and send it down the track. Its actually great fun aswell.

Must make this clear is that this is an event organised by silverline, the robots and drag racing organised by both ourselves and silverline. They are not mearly sponsoring it so it is very reasonable that if they are putting up so much prize money, paying for the hall, and giving us an oppertunity to host an event they arnt asking for much.

Yes Jamie £10 and a couple hours gets you all. its not £10 for each comp. Looking into the camping situation at the moment but will probably recommend the one we stay at.

think in the rules it says no radio gear can be used

Adrian, as alex said, you can't use radio controlled equiptment. You are allowed to use other powered tools other than 240v, but it has to by activated by 240 if you get what i mean.
    So, for example,
You can turn on the drills using a 240v solenoid of some form. It needs to be this way as the timing equiptment runs off the instant the 240v supply is activated. If you dont use that, the timing will nort work, and reaction times will not be recorded etc.

I'll do some research on some 240v solenoids, or some other means of switching it on.
