Mudskipper
WEIGHT: 100kg
DIMENSIONS: 110 x 65 x 38 cm
SHAPE: ...its a mudskipper...(kind of like Nightmare would be if much more substantial, and the armour touched the floor, and there was no disc)
COLOUR: ...its a mudskipper...
DRIVE: 2 24v EMD wheelchair motors run at 30v from 5 NiMh battlepacks, driving two urethane treaded wheels located inside the mudskippers front fins.
SPEED: 10mph average, 15mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at front due to the fins forming wedges, varies between that and 10mm elsewhere
ARMOUR: The entire shell, over a stainless steel frame, is a composite of kevlar fabric and carbon fibre bonded with RS285 resin, with 0.5mm titanium/vanadium alloy sheet layered beneath in places to protect vital components like the motors. The thickness of this varies between 5mm (mostly) and 20mm (decorative bits) and both front wedges are constructed from 5mm titanium/vanadium alloy.
WEAPONS: The main weapon (situated between the front fins) is a horizontal disc weighing 17kgs, constructed from stainless steel with two hardened tool steel chisel teeth, powered by a LEM-130 Lynch motor (OMG JOEY BUILT AN ELECTRIC SPINNER) to speeds of around 2500rpm, producing around 16kjs per hit. Before you write it off, remember this was Warheads energy level in Battlebots. :P
In addition the rear/top has a few hardened steel chisel spikes sticking out of the kevlar/carbon fibre, again its a mudskipper with all the features of a real one. :P
GIMMICKS: Hidden inside the base panel is a 4 bar flipping mechanism, this is run from medium pressure (400psi) CO2 stored in a 2kg tank and actuated within a 85mm bore ram acting on the front bar. This fires downwards and backwards from the base and, with the aid of a rubber coated foot on the end, pushes on the floor and causes the robot to jump around about 4ft into the air and quite some distance forwards, usually landing on its base due to the gyroscopic forces of the disc. Mudskipper can also turn when jumping and the resultant adding of vectors will cause it to jump diagonally, in an arc, or rotate while jumping, making it very able to escape from danger. The ram is single acting and such returns immediately after firing.
SRIMECH: The top fin (basically a hinged arm attached to some fabric that opens up when used) is run off the same pneumatics system as the jumping, this time using a full bottle pressure 35mm bore ram to self right it quickly if inverted.
NOTES: Components shock mounted where possible to protect it from its own jumping. Will probably be able to get out of the pit given the chance (goes in on its back, srimechs then jumps out; goes in on its front, jumps out)
STRENGTHS: ...its a mudskipper...
WEAKNESSES: ...its a mudskipper...
S.D.F. - note this is a three part clusterbot, the linking method is through string and formation driving.
S.D.F. Assault Unit I
WEIGHT: 30kgs
DIMENSIONS: 85 x 60 x 25 cm
SHAPE: Long, narrow wedge with sloped sides and rear
COLOUR: Black, blue, and yellow chevrons
DRIVE: 2 Astroflight Cobalt 90 motors run at 24v from 3 NiCad packs, driving two rear urethane rubber tyred wheels
SPEED: 10mph average, 14mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at front due to the wedge and flipper, rises to around 6-7mm elsewhere
ARMOUR: Largely a monocoque constructed from 3mm titanium/10% vanadium alloy, double skinned for structural support in areas making it very stiff. The base is 10mm polycarbonate and set in from the base of the armour to give it protection against Spin Dash and other sawblade nasties.
WEAPONS: A full pressure CO2 powered 25cm wide flipping arm run from a 1kg CO2 bottle and a 50mm diameter ram, set flush with the body of the robot and ending in a 2mm spring steel blade to get underneath other robots. It can be used around 20 times in a fight.
SRIMECH: The weapon
NOTES: Internals are heavily shock proofed with floating electronics and other nice things, to help it absorb large impacts such as those that come from machines three times its weight.
S.D.F. Assault Unit II
WEIGHT: 30kgs
DIMENSIONS: 85 x 60 x 25 cm
SHAPE: Long, narrow wedge with sloped sides and rear
COLOUR: Black, red, and yellow chevrons
DRIVE: 2 Astroflight Cobalt 90 motors run at 24v from 3 NiCad packs, driving two rear urethane rubber tyred wheels
SPEED: 10mph average, 14mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at front due to the wedge and flipper, rises to around 6-7mm elsewhere

S.D.F. Central Defence Unit
WEIGHT: 40kgs
DIMENSIONS: 70 x 60 x 18 cm
SHAPE: Invertible box with front wedge, side anti stranding bars, and rear inverse wedge
COLOUR: Black, green and yellow chevrons
DRIVE: 4 Astroflight Cobalt 90 motors run at 24v from 6 NiCad packs, driving urethane rubber tracks with steel and Kevlar cables running through them making them difficult to completely break.
SPEED: 10mph average, 14mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at front, 0 at rear when inverted, elsewhere always 6-7mm. The rear is an inverted wedge so easy to get under.
ARMOUR: 3mm titanium/10% vanadium alloy monocoque, double skinned in places for structural support to make it very stiff.
WEAPONS: The side bars taper into front and rear sharpened titanium spikes. Otherwise, its a wedge rammer type machine, nothing active.
SRIMECH: Invertible, side bars prevent stranding
NOTES: Internals are heavily shockproofed with floating electronics and other nice things, to help it absorb large impacts such as those that come from machines three times its weight.
STRENGTHS: The clusterbot effect. Surround the opponent, flip them a lot, shove them, watch them try to fight back...
WEAKNESSES: Individually easy to get at
Lights! Camera! Traction! (credit to Matty for the name)
DIMENSIONS: 100 x 80 x 20 cms
SHAPE: Box with front wedge
COLOUR: Yellow and black chevrons
DRIVE: 2 wheelchair motors on four wheel drive via belts from 2 SLA batteries at 24v, the wheels are some ones nicked from a wheelbarrow and are inside the robot for protection from side attacks.
SPEED: 8mph
GROUND CLEARANCE: 10mm all around, except the front which is 0
ARMOUR: 10mm 2014 T6 aluminium monocoque
WEAPONS: None
SRIMECH: Invertible, has spikes at the sides and rear to prevent it being stranded
STRENGTHS: Moves
WEAKNESSES: Lack of weaponry
Best of luck Liam, glad to hear that this one will be uninterrupted by exams![]()
