You lock them in a cage with Major Damage???
Poor Major Damage. I pity him.

i would just tell people to move if there in the way and im fighting but i always find a spot where i can see fine
Yeah, the littler drivers had trouble drving, thats for sure (Im fairly tall for a 12 year old, but not even i can see over Majour Damage, and with such a small robot!)
about the emergency stop sound,
when i was using my feather for the first time during that fight where cylon started smoking, the emergency stop sound went off- but no one had explained to me what the sound ment so i just carried on driving about until i saw the arena marshall step in the arena to pick up cylon.
you might just say its common sence but my concentration was on not getting my first ever robot too damaged.
I didnt know what was going on at all, was i driving, where am i, who am i (Still, i am always like that, wait, whats this thing here with letters, oh, buttons!)
well well well, i go away for a few days, and look what happens.
Nice to see some healthy discussion about our cage![]()
The only thing i will say, is that it it has changed the fight characteristics. I found myself having to think when fighting megga mouse at nottingham. Choose the right time to flip him, save gas, wait until we were near the flip out zone before firing. I loved it !!!
A 10 second fight ..... never again !!
Im reading with interest.

Cage or no cage? - Yes, it makes for some very interesting and entertaining fights. Well done to RR.
Thats a very valid point about the emergency cease sound you have there, Calum. Note to all EOs that have such a procedure - please include familiarisation in your pre-show roboteers meeting.
I have a lot of trouble seeing where I am driving in RRs arena due to the lighting - I dont have any such problem at Robots Lives events. The poor lighting on Saturday in the arena caused me to not be able to see the gap in the platform right close to the gate as it was already dark and in shadow. I slipped down the hole and badly bruised my leg.
As far as driving from the audience is concerned - I did it a couple of years ago at an XFM event by sitting in the audience and by sitting in the aisle. The audience certainly appreciated the interaction with someone whom they consider to be a tv star even though I never did Robot Wars. It makes no difference because either way you are still a performer and without those audiences who keep coming back, none of this would be possible so long after the last series of RW was made.
The only suggestion i would have is about caging on the side where the audience sit, as at the start of Nottingham, i sat at the side and i found it a bit hard to see.
Maybe have it covered with polycarb or something?
The caging was really designed for venues like maistone where it will come into its element.
The audience are on one bank of seating which is directly in front of the arena so there is no problems with viewing. They will get a good view of the flip out zone and the two projector screens.
Next year we will be planning the majority of shows to be the same.

Oh, okay then! :-)
