grade 1-4 is okay to weld together, as there all none alloyed i think..
grade 5 and above is okay aswell to weld to eachother (they are alloyed)..
it is possible to weld 2 to 5 etc together though.
its somthing todo with some types of titanium being alpha and some being a beta type.
Kenny if you want ill pop down to my sponsors on friday before you come to the coopers and ask which are the best rods to use to weld them together and pick up a few while im there. I think its about £1 a rod.
Most titanium welds will become brittle and prone to cracking, especially on the higher alloys.
If you can, avoid welding. If you have to, lower grades will weld better.
kenny- your flipper arm is Gr2, get some grade 2 for the sides, im sure ive given u some before.. if not ill find some more for you lol,
Kanes right- titanium welds are brittle. Your arm is 10mm thick. id advise you drill and tap the side of it and bolt the brace on.
the welding is just some armour tags to bolt armour on to the robot via welding little sqaure tabs with a thread in to the base, the grade 5 is the base and the grade 2 is the 10mm Ti i got for them.
sorry to steal the thread but it is relevant to my question, what sort of grade would people suggest for titanium used in a claw for a crusher i need it to be lighter than what it is at the moment??
grade 2 with a tool steel tip
a tool stel tip to the claw? thanks
take the end of the claw off and shape abit of tool steel to the tip, but beware not doing it right will soften the tool steel and it will like mild steel then lol
so whats the difference between grade 1 and 2 or any other grades then?
