Thread: New Feather Idea

Driving robots over babies bottoms? There has to be a law against that

  2. #12
Theres no mention of it in the FRA rules.

2 magmotors for drive in featherweight?

Ben I dont mean to sound patronising (spelling?) but is this a vapour bot or a real feather?

I struggled to fit a magmotor into hornet 2 to power the disc with the battery and speedo requirements of such a motor. Then there is the cost. Can you afford to potentially have 2 magmotors destroyed or damaged in the arena?

Magmotors for drive are far too powerful and will only needlessly spin the wheels. Go for a proven drive train, 2 or 4 drill motors with wheels attached to the ends. I use it in hornet 2 and apart from a plastic gearbox taking a direct hit and needing replacing i have yet to have any serious problems.

vapour gary. its not the first time he has done a thread without any intention of building a robot.

Ive been skeptical about Bens motivation towards building an actual robot from the beginning. :P

Ben, even dicounting what Gary said about not being able to put the power down in 13.6kgs, I with a full cnc workshop wouldnt try to build a gearbox for a mag in a feather. To build one capable of delivering the power to the wheels in an acceptable weight would be very difficult.

But if you are insisting on trying then MOD1 gears minimum. Plus you would be better off with golds, astros or speed 900s much better for feathers.

im putting some mags in drive for my heavy and that will still spin the wheels with all the weight on them, so on a feather you have no chance it will just spin up like pillow torque used to.

even if you could get a gearbox in weight etc, the gears would after be bored and pocketed so much they would brake with the power of the mag
