Thread: The Killer Toad Tournament Special

  1. #31
    Name: Supreme Glory Omega
    Weight: 100kg
Armour: 20mm Lexan and LexiGuard compound and 4mm Grade 5 Titanium skirts.
    Speed: 18mph, running of 2 x S28-400 MagMotors running at 24v.
Shape: Box shaped with Ti skirts on each side.
Weapon 1: An 11kg Aluminium alloy axe powered by liquid Nitrogen running at 1000psi. The axe mechanism is a rack and pinion system, using a 100mm stroke, 80mm bore pneumatic cylinder.
Strengths: Strong armour and very manoeuvrable.
Weaknesses: Axe only works if something is in front or behind the robot.
Ground Clearance: 0mm all around due to skirts.
Srimech: The axe self rights the robot.
Notes: The 2 wheels are made from Ti/V alloy and coated in Vulcalore to aid in traction. The robot is covered in 20mm Lexan and LexiGuard compound. The axe weighs a total of 11kg and is shaped like Excaliburs axe from series 3 of Robot Wars. This shape is designed to focus all the force on a single point, meaning it can pierce through armour easily. To stop the robot hopping around when the axe is fired, the robot incorporates a vacuum system. This system basically sucks SG0 to the ground and is mainly used when fighting pushers or robots with superior pushing power. This mechanism can be knocked on and off during the match. The robot carries 4kg of liquid Nitrogen on board and has roughly 35 hits per fight. The axe can come down with roughly 2 tonnes of force at the tip, meaning that the axe could knock certain opponents out in one hit.

    And for GM4...

    Robot Name: Fling
    Dimensions (LxWxH): 100cm x 80cm x 40cm
Shape: Shallow wedge with angled sides and a shaped rear to stop it getting stranded, as well as keeping the wheels on the ground if going up a wedged robot or a ramp. On the bottom of the wedge is a wedge extender, making the ground clearance 0mm.
Colour: Half black and half white, with white decoration on the black side and black decoration on the white side. Celtic bands painted throughout the robot.
    Weight: 100kg.
Drive: 2 Sinclair C5 Motors running at 24v, powered by Nicad Batteries.
Batteries: 3x 3000mAh Nicads at 24v, giving 9Ah. These power both the drive and the winch needed for the weapon.
Top Speed: Roughly 15 to 20mph.
Wheels: 2 x 20cm diameter go-kart wheels filled with expanding foam instead of air. These are positioned at the back of the machine.
Armour: 4mm Hardox for the wedge extender, 8mm Titanium on the sides and 6mm Titanium everywhere else.
Weaponry: A €œleaf spring€ flipper mounted on the front of the machine. The concept is similar to Team Whyachi€™s Red Square, but with the flipper on an angle to toss robots lengthways AND upwards. Can you say OOTA? . The flipper plate itself is made from a tempered piece of 1 thick Titanium/Vanadium alloy, designed to spring back to a curved shape once it has been flattened. One section is fastened securely to the top of the wedge, with the tempered edge winched down so it lies flush with the rest of the wedge. When a robot is on the front wedge, the free end is released and the opponent is sent not only upwards, but also away from the machine. The flipping plate is winched down by an S28-150 Magmotor running at 24v, geared down 400:1.
    Turning circle: 0m.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front, 2cm at the back, varying between both on the sides.
    Srimech: Flipper.

Yes they are, but I can post them if you want? What is it about this thread that is making me come off as really arguementative?

  3. #33
    Perhaps because you are?

  4. #34
can I add to the drum vs vertical flywheel arguement that drums have alot more surface area, alot more accuracy because of that, they make sure your centre of gravity can be alot lower, they cause less gyroscopic effects and they ask for less exotic shapes for the main body (I mean, Nightmare... come on!)

Even though Fairground Killride will be overweight on Mars, Im allowing it entry because of the silliness of the 4th match

SHAPE- skirted box, with rounded sides and back.
COLOUR- dark blue bodywork, with red-and-white striped skirting.
    WEIGHT- about 100kg
    DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 75cm X 20cm
    SPEED- 16mph
    TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm all round, 10mm at sides and rear without skirts.

SRIMECH- invertible. The rounded sides and rear also prevent it getting beached.
    NOTES- flies Scotland flag.
STRENGTHS- excellent traction, fast, tough armour, low weaponry, invertible
WEAKNESSES- untested, so-so manoueverability, saw blade less effective upside-down
