    SMIDSY (13) VS Wedgas Revenge

    3...2...1...ACTIVATE!

    The unlucky-for-some 13th seeds are the fort to get away, immediately driving towards Wedgas Revenge, trying to get the lifting jaw underneath. Robin Bennett, at the controls of SMIDSY looks somewhat worried, as his machine fails to get underneath the machine from Shrewsbury, but the opposite - a flip from Wedgas Revenge sending SMISDY soaring into the air before landing with a hefty thump onto the arena floor. SMIDSY, however, is invertible, and carries on the attack, this time grinding away at the sides of Wedgas Revenge with the 11kg rear spinning disc, the Hardox monocoque armouring of Wedgas Revenge withstanding the attack, as it turns and gets SMIDSY onto the front scoop. Two of SMIDSYs wheels are now off the ground, as Wedgas Revenge drives towards the arena wall, aiming to send it over and out of the competition. The flip happens, but just a tad too late, as SMIDSY - instead of flying over the wall - is sent crashing into it, the full 18HP shove of Wedgas Revenge wobbling the Plexiglass wall. SMIDSY quickly manouvres itself away from danger and darts towards the pit release button mounted on the other side of the arena, but is being chased down by Andrew Jacksons flipping machine. SMIDSY skids into the pit release, the rear of the machine just clipping it and darts away from the advancing danger once again. The siren wails menacingly as the pit descends, Wedgas Revenge very nearly ending up in it, a last-minute change of direction sparing Andrew Jacksons blushes. SMIDSY, instead of running away, now comes in on the attack, slamming into the front of Wedgas Revenge. Once again, however, SMIDSY cannot get its lifting wedge underneath, but on the bright side, Wedgas Revenge has failed to get under SMIDSY as well.

    Both machines desperately try to get some grip on the arena floor, but it is Wedgas Reenge who comes up trumps, the LEM130 Lynch motors giving the HP it needs to outpush SMIDSY and slam it, rear disc first, into the side wall. The impact sends SMIDSY ever-so-slightly into the air, allowing Wedgas Revenge to get underneath it once more. Another flip sends SMIDSY airborne, but not over the fence - instead landing in Matildas CPZ. The matriach of mechanical mayhem lunges forward, the tusks getting underneath the high ground clearance of the 13th seed, just as Wedgas Revenge also comes in with another flip. SMIDSY has another brief flying lesson, as it lands stacked up against the arena wall at the back of Matildas CPZ. The house robot quickly reverses, causing the huge vertical flywheel to thwack the veteran into the air, bouncing on top of the fence, before landing out of the arena.

    SMIDSY should change its name to SMIDSYD - Sorry Matilda I Didnt See Your Spinning Disc!

    I think this one may be more even than the stats would suggest, its basically a case of who flips who out first...Ill go for Atomic, just to be different :P

    And now, the end is near for one of the following machines. A place in the Semi Finals is up for grabs. Are you sitting comfortably? Then well begin...

    But first lets see how our heat finalists got this far!

    In round one Atomic turned the turtle over the arena wall, and flipped Cygnus X3 over onto its back and unable to self right. Wedgas Revenge got its revenge on Mean Streak, before doing the same to Araknia!

    Round two saw Atomic send Hellbent down the the underworld, via the camera tracks, of course, whilst Wedgas Revenge tried to flip SMIDSY out of the arena once, twice and thrice, before Matilda finally did the honours with her ferocious flywheel!

    House Robots - Dead Metal and Sir Killalot

    3...2...1...ACTIVATE!

    Atomic surges from its starting grid, the speed and acceleration catching Wedgas Revenge off guard, speeding across the arena floor and slamming head first with the flipper into its opponent. The flipping plate, however, fails to get underneath Wedgas Revenge, but the force of the slam sends the machine from Shrewsbury reeling backwards. Before AJ can fire the flipper, Atomic has reversed off the front scoop and drives around the arena, hoping to get underneath via the sides. Wedgas Revenge turns to block Atomic off, and manages to get Atomic onto the flipper. This time, Wedgas Revenge fires its flipper and Atomic is flicked away, but not flipped over onto its back. Stephen Bebb spins Atomic back to face Wedgas Revenge, but AJ is one step ahead of him and gets under the front of Atomic, driving it towards the arena wall and flipping it up in the air! Atomic thuds back to the ground, a hiss of CO2 venting from the underneath. Atomic self rights and quickly escapes another onslaught from Wedgas Revenge, who can sense victory is coming its way. Atomic crashes into the pit release, the driving of Stephen Bebb almost manic and uncontrollable, before headinf for Wedgas Revenge once again. This time, neither robot are able to successfully get under one another, Wedgas Revenge slowly but surely pushing Atomic back towards Dead Metals CPZ. Atomic tries desperately not to be outpushed, a surge of grip and aggression shoving Wedgas Revenge back, but unable to finish the job at hand, as Wedgas Revenge finally manages to shove Atomic into Dead Metals CPZ. The claws on Dead Metal latch around the back of Atomic, the saw blade whirring manically as it moves forward in its cradle. The sound of sawblade on Titanium fills the arena with a terrifying shriek, sparks pouring away from the blade like water from a fountain. Atomic wriggles whilst in the cluthes of Dead Metal, the sawblade coming down again and making another fountain of sparks. Eventually Atomic is released from the CPZ and charges directly at Wedgas Revenge, who has placed itself near the centre of the arena. The two machines crash in the middle, Atomic ending up on the scoop of Wedgas Revenge. Andrew Jackson flips Atomic over, leaving the veteran to Robot Wars on its back. Atomic self rights, but fails, the broken gas valve causing the precious CO2 to leak out and leave Atomic weaponless and srimechless. Refbot counts out Atomic as Wedgas Revenge spins in a victorious whirl.

    CEASE!

    Atomic was more like a Nuclear Disaster than an Atomic Bomb!
    Wedgas Revenge goes through to the Series Semi Finals!

    A newcomer to the wars, DreamCatcher is eager to put in a dream performance. The main weapon is the domed shell itself, which can spin up to 2400rpm and tear up anything in its path with the sharpened blade fixed over it. Its quick and manoueverable with top speeds of 18mph and the 4mm Hardox armour will be tough to crack. The underbelly, however, is only thin polycarbonate and with no srimech, a good flipper could turn DreamCatchers debut into a nightmare!

    Rebooted for a third time, Mega Hurts has its bloodshot eyes set on victory once again! Still boxy and bright yellow, the CO2 flipping keyboard is now more powerful than ever and the forward-hinged laptop screen makes for a very funky srimech. Mega Hurts has plenty of RAM with its 2 x 750w electric motors and its steel construction makes it tougher than it looks. That said, the polycarbonate armour has been easily smashed in the past and, like my old PC, this veteran has reliability issues.
    IN RW2 (as Mega Hurts): Eliminated in King of the Castle...taking Sgt Bash and Dead Metal with it!
    IN RW3 (as Tuts Revenge): Flipped over by Berserk 2 in Round 1
    IN RW6 (as Mega Hurts 2): Lost to X-Terminator on a judges decision in Round 2

    FROM EAST KILBRIDE, IN SCOTLAND, REVOLUTION 3!

    Formerly a psychotic wheat thresher, Revolution has been completely redesigned for maximum anarchy. Mark 3 is similar in many ways to the current champ Tornado - an invertible aluminium and polycarb box with four big wheels and a 2500rpm spinning drum on the front. Its 3 x 1.5kw electric motors give it plenty of push, as well as 12mph top speeds and great acceleration. Unfortunately, the invertible frame leaves the wheels open to aerial attacks and its previous form wasnt too reliable. Will Revolution 3 lead us to the promised land or simply overthrow itself?
    IN RW6 (as Revolution 2): Eliminated in Round 1 against Anarchy and Thor
    IN RW EX 2 (as Revolution 2): Made Round 2 of the New Blood Championship before losing to I.C.U.

    FROM TIPTON, IN THE WEST MIDLANDS, THE SCRAPPER!

    Born of junk and always up for a fight, the Scrapper more than lives up to its name. This is a boxy bot with two wheels, an angled top and a horizontal spinning disc on the front. The flywheel weighs 20kg and can reach speeds of 950rpm - one hit and youll be scrap! The Scrapper is also invertible, bad news for the many flippers this year, and the rear is protected by a row of ramming spikes. The 800w electric motors dont give the newcomer much push, though, and the 6mm see-through polycarbonate is like an open buffet for fellow spinners. The Scrapper could well become the Scrapped!

    House Robots - Dead Metal and Growler

    ACTIVATE!

    Revolution 3 gets off to the quickest start, clattering into the Scrapper and pushing it across the arena! The newcomer is slammed into the western wall, just as Mega Hurts L.T. arrives on the scene. The crazed computer slips its keyboard under Revolutions rear and flicks the rambot up, but not over! Revolution is just about to exact revenge when DreamCatcher enters the fray, spinning shell humming wickedly. The dark dome lurches forward, striking both Mega Hurts and Revolution! The veterans are flung aside, Mega Hurts sporting the bigger scars of the two! The Scrapper takes this oppertunity to strike a dazed Revolution with its flywheel! The newcomer barely has time for a second blow when Mega Hurts bustles in! The duo dance together briefly until the Scrappers spinner hits the laptops side! Infuriated, Mega Hurts drives under the Scrappers revving disc and flicks the newbie over onto its back, just as DreamCatcher charges back over!
    CRRRASH!
    Both robots are sent flying by the spinning dome, now up to its maximum speed! The Scrapper quickly recovers, its side scraped and scarred, but Mega Hurts is starting to look battered! As for Revolution, hes just hit the Pit Release Button and is on his way back to pay out the Scrapper! Mega Hurts, meanwhile, is trying to shake off DreamCatcher, but the nippy spinner quickly catches up!
    CRRRASH!
    Mega Hurts is sent spinning again, this time with a nasty gash put into the polycarbonate sides! The veteran hardly has time to get its wheels turning before DreamCatcher comes in for another assault! Clearly, Daniel has some serious computer issues.
    CRRRASH!
    This time, the flipper takes the brunt of the attack and right now, Mega Hurts is starting to look pretty sluggish. The loveable laptop tries to scuttle away to safety, but DreamCatcher simply swoops in for another blow...and another...and another! While the Welsh entry vents its anger at Microsoft, well move to Revolution and the Scrapper, who are engaged in a tense tango. The Scrapper has caused little more damage to Revolution, but its manoueverability is making it hard for the veteran to hit. This soon changes when the Scrapper manages to clip Revolutions side, spinning itself around! This allows the quicker Revolution enough time to dive in and crash into the newcomers side! The Scrapper tries to get away, but Revolution is in total control, effortlessly pushing its rival down the arena towards the Pit! A screech of tyres, a puff of smoke and the Scrapper finds itself out of the competition!
    The Scrapper returns to the junkheap from whence it came! What a scrappy performance!
    At the other end of the ring, things are looking grim for Mega Hurts. DreamCatchers relentless assault has slowed it to a crawl and covered its shell with dents and gashes! The Welsh machine strikes again, seemingly damaging the flipper! It certainly doesnt seem to be responding to Dave and Tonys controls anymore...and neither is the rest of the robot! DreamCatcher puts in one more blow to make sure, just as Revolution decides to join them! With the newcomers shell suitably slowed, Revolution bumps into DreamCatcher and pushes the deadly dome into the top wall! Daniel tries to get the shell whirling again, but its hard to do with a Tornado lookalike punching your lights out! His bots still in much better shape than Mega Hurts, though, who is being examined by the Refbot. Theres clearly no more life in those bloodshot eyes, as the Ref raises his hand...
    1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10!
    Refbot has barely flashed the red card when Dead Metal zips in to clear up the mess. Grappling the fallen veteran, the House Robot sinks its saw into Mega Hurts srimech screen with particular pleasure. You see, DreamCatcher isnt the only one with a grudge against computers. Dead Metal tried switching to Windows Vista not too long ago and nearly frazzled his circuits. Now, its payback time. Happily grinding away at the screen, Dead Metal pushes the battered remains of Mega Hurts onto the Floor Flipper and quickly backs away. Dave and Tony can only laugh as their computerized creation soars through the air, lands upside-down near the bottom of the ring...and flicks itself back onto its wheels! Well, at least the srimech still works!

    CEASE!

    Mega Hurts L.T. has performed an illegal operation and will shut down. Permanantely.
    DREAMCATCHER AND REVOLUTION 3 GO THROUGH TO ROUND 2!
