    HEAT C: ROUND ONE

Dantomkia (5) VS Rick VS King B Powerworks VS Hassocks Hog 2
IG-88 VS Axetra VS The Stag VS Scorpion

Apologies in advance for this battle. Hangover. Alcohol. Never. Drink. Strongbow. AGAIN!

IG-88 VS Axetra VS The Stag VS Scorpion

    From Essex... IG-88!
This machine from Team Vader looks very similar to the robot featured in Heat A - a wedged pyramid design with rear spinning weapon, this time in the form of a bi-rotational axe. Deadly, but without a srimech could IG-88 go back to the Dark Side?

    From Surrey... Scorpion!
Armed with a 40cm spinning disc, spinning at a whopping 5000RPM, this scorpion has a serious sting in the tail. With past experience they know the arena well, but with 2 wheel drive it will find it hard to win a pushing match. Will this be a fairytail ending for Scorpion?

    From Vancouver€¦ Axetra!
Axetra! Axetra! Read all about it: Axetra comes into the arena with a huge 9kg axe running at 200psi. It€™s capable of hitting with a ton of force, and has good traction on the arena floor with its 4WD and Vulcalon tyres. But with limited CO2 on board, will Axetra be axed in the competition?

    From Newcastle€¦ The Stag!
This deadly insect has a pair of horizontal pincers powered by hydraulics and capable of crushing with 7 tonnes of force. Ouch! . Two x 800w electric motors give strong pushing power, and the front wedge can get under high ground clearances, but with exposed wheels could the beetle end up needing Help!? (It€™s a Beatles song, it€™s funny, deal with it! )

Booth One: Samuel and Paul Rose (IG-8
Booth Two: Terry Martin (The Stag) and Geoff Smith (Scorpion)

House Robots: Sgt Bash and the lovely, pretty, gorgeous Matilda!

    3€¦2€¦1€¦ACTIVATE!

The blade of IG-88 immediately spins up, as it drives wedge first into Axetra The skirts of Samuel€™s robot proving themselves, as Team Vader€™s machine drives up the wedge and unable to cause any damage. Scorpion€™s horizontal blade - which has already reached phenomenal speeds slams into the front wedge of The Stag, causing a huge gash to appear on the Newcastle-bot. Geoff Smith brings the disc of Scorpion into play again, this time riding up the front wedge and thwacking one of the horizontal pincers, bending it and buckling it. IG-88 drives off the side skirts of Axetra, and darts in front of the axed robot, Sam bringing the devastating axe down a microsecond too late. Paul Rose immediately puts IG-88 and hits the axe of Axetra with the bi-rotational axe, causing quite a bit of damage to Axetra€™s weaponry. The Stag, meanwhile, has managed to capture Scorpion in its hydraulic pincers, and slams it into the arena side wall, right on the cusp of Matilda€™s CPZ. Scorpion tries desperately to get away before Tildy can bring her fearsome flywheel into the fight, but the grip of The Stag and lack of traction with Scorpion€™s two-wheel-drive means that Scorpion is going nowhere. IG-88 attacks Axetra again, the latter attempting to get away and attack The Stag, the bi-rotational axe hitting one of the side skirts of Samuel€™s robots and sending it flying - the hinges not strong enough to withstand the impact of IG-88€™s weaponry. The Stag - still with Scorpion in it€™s clutches - drives it€™s victim into Matilda€™s CPZ, allowing the House Robot to slam her flywheel into Scorpion€™s horizontal disc. Sparks litter the CPZ as the impact sends Scorpion spinning around. Unluckily for Terry Martin, this results in The Stag ending up in the CPZ, allowing Tildy€™s flywheel to cause more pain and damage to the robots in the arena, the armour of The Stag ripped like crepe paper and the exposed wheel on the left hand side simply smacked off the axle. Axetra manages to get away from IG-88€™s onslaught and brings the axe into play onto the top of Scorpion, denting it with every blow. IG-88 darts in, using the spinning axes once again to cause damage, and clip the rear skirt of Axetra. Once again, the skirt of Axetra is sent flying, as the 6mm ground clearance of Sam€™s machine is now exposed. Team Vader bring the bi-rotational axe into play again, this time hitting the main body of Axetra, which was previously protected by those skirts. The impact sends Axetra slightly into the air, but not enough to stop it hammering down axe blows onto Scorpion, who is still stuck in The Stag€™s grip but desperately trying to drive away. The battles enters the final minute, as Refbot (you remember him, right? ) checks on The Stag, who has been motionless ever since Matilda€™s flywheel thwacked it. Terry Martin looks defeated as Refbot counts it out.

    CEASE!

    It goes to the Judges!

Unlike what happened in Series 7, I am going to show you my judging criteria. I have asked 3 people on MSN to be my judges for this battle, and they will tell me who they think should go through between Scorpion, Axetra and IG-88. Once all 3 judges have given their scores, they will be added together.

Judging is based on the following:

    Damage: maximum of 40 points.
    Aggression: maximum of 30 points.
    Control: maximum of 20 points.
    Style: maximum of 10 points.

Judge 1 has given the following scores:
    Axetra: 30 points. IG-88: 65 points. Scorpion: 45 points.
Judge 2 has given the following scores:
    Axetra: 23 points. IG-88: 45 points. Scorpion: 29 points.
Judge 3 has given the following scores:
    Axetra: 26 points. IG-88: 56 points. Scorpion: 35 points.

This means that with a total of only 79 points, Axetra is out, and IG-88 and Scorpion go through to round 2 with 168 and 109 points respectively!

    HEAT C: ROUND TWO

    Dantomkia (5) VS Scorpion
    King B Powerworks VS IG-88

As Sams vapour does not change the lineup for the rest of Heat C - the remaining battles will have the same result as they did in Series 7.

This means that Damtomkia, the 5th seed, goes through to the Series Semi Finals!

    HEAT D

13 Black (7) VS Herbinator VS Infusion VS Lightning
Gravity VS Hydra VS Thor VS Hodaf The Bad

    Tactics? Predictions? A hangover cure?

Predictions: Herbinator are going, not much change there...I think 13 Black will follow them out.

    Hangover Cure: Dunno :P

    HEAT D: ROUND ONE

13 Black (7) VS Herbinator VS Infusion VS Lightning

    From Essex€¦ Lightning!
A sleek wedge design created by this team from Essex, powered by 2 x 750x electric motors giving an average top speed. The weaponry comprises of 2 independent flippers that are unique to Robot Wars - they move in a sideways motion! Lightning can self right, but with limited C02 on board will Lightning be gone in a flash?

From Leicestershire: the number 7 seeds€¦ 13 Black!
The double discs of doom are back! 13 Black stormed its way to the semi finals last year, with a lack of a srimech letting it down. This year it€™s solved that problem, and turbo charged the discs so they are even more frightening. Two wheel drive gives good manoeuvrability and at 20mph it is the fastest in the competition. But with a lack of pushing power, could 13 Black prove unlucky this time around?

    From Australia€¦ Infusion!
Croikey, mate, this robot plays by its own Aussie Rules! This robot from Down Under is sure to be Spinning Around in the form of a 28kg body and a potential 25mph top speed. Powered by 2 Magmotors running at 24v, the electronics inside Infusion are pretty safe. The front wedge gives 0mm ground clearance at the front, but with exposed wheels, could Infusion end up getting tied down, sport, or Skippy its way through the competition?

    From Huddersfield€¦ Herbinator!
First time competitors to the Wars, this flipper robot hopes to throw opponents out of the arena using it€™s rear hinged flipper powered by a €œ16 bang pneumatic CO2 cylinder€ (quote from Youtube video, not random garbage, honest! ). The robot is made from aluminium and has roll-bars to stop is getting stranded. The Herbinator is a cross between the Terminator and Herbie: will the Herbinator be back, or will it go bananas?!

Booth One: Laurie Calvert (Lightning) and Jeremy Cuss (Herbinator)
Booth Two: John Denny (13 Black) and Aaron Knight

House Robots: Sgt Bash and Shunt.

    3€¦2€¦1€¦ACTIVATE!

Heat D begins, with all four robots sprinting out of the starting gate and driving towards the centre of the arena. Infusion€™s spinning body whirrs ferociously, the blades becoming a blur almost instantly as the 2 x D-Pack motors kick in. 13 Black has also got its spinning weaponry rotating, but very slowly, the counter rotating discs, each one being 70cm in diameter, looking for some metal to munch. Lightning is the first robot to make contact with another, sliding its low wedge shape underneath the far larger Herbinator and using one of its sideway flippers to send the robot from Huddersfield onto its back, the side roll-bars doing their job perfectly. Infusion moves menacingly towards Lightning and Herbinator, the latter self righting in superb style using the flipper. 13 Black also begins the move towards the action, allowing time for the discs to rev up to their top speed. John Denny, the driver behind 13 Black, uses the 20mph top speed of his machine to slam one of the discs into the side of Lightning, the impact ricocheting both 13 Black and Lightning away from each other. 13 Black is send flying towards the arena wall, the other spinning disc smashing into the Lexan wall and slicing it as if it was thin paper. Lightning, which now has a huge gash in the side armouring, spins across the arena floor, finally coming to a halt just outside Shunt€™s arena CPZ. Laurie Calvert regains control of Lightning and gets it back in on the action. Infusion, which has been quite quiet during this battle, spots an opening for some destruction - the side roll-bars of Herbinator. Aaron Knight turns Infusion around and brings the 28kg spinning shell into play, smashing into the side of Herbinator.

Sparks fill the space as the Aluminium roll-bars are sent soaring through the air, crashing into the safety screen outside of the arena. The crowd are in awe, as Infusion, relentless and blood-thirsty, crashes into Herbinator again, this time the entire side panel is ripped clean off in a shower of sparks and shrapnel. On the other side of the arena, both robots clearly recovered from their initial onslaught, 13 Black and Lightning collide once again, this time Lightning getting the upper hand and sliding underneath the double-spinner, flipping it over using one of the sideways flippers and expelling C02 in the process. The discs on 13 Black grind to a halt as they make contact with the arena floor, splinters of wood flying upwards and showering the arena floor. John Denny bring the newly added srimech into play, and 13 Black self rights without any problems at all. A large crash fills the arena, as the entire crowd turn to see Infusion deliver another deadly blow to Herbinator, who has seemed pretty motionless after the first attack from the Aussie robot. The innards of Herbinator, scattered around the arena, resemble the remains of a gazelle after being attacked by a lion: Herbinator sadly being the gazelle. The carcass of Herbinator is shoved around by Sgt Bash, a flick of flame adding to Jeremy Cuss€™ misery, before the arena floor flipper sends Herbinator airborne, the Aluminium remains landing ferociously on the arena floor.

As Herbinator was being removed from the competition in spectacular style, Infusion, still bloodthirsty and wanting more destruction, drives towards 13 Black and Lightning, the robot from Essex receiving more battle scars from the spinning discs of 13 Black. Laurie Calvert, the driver of Lightning manages to get his machine underneath the ground clearance of 13 Black and sends it onto its back once again. The arena floor gains two more grooves from the twin discs of 13 Black, just as the spinning body of Infusion gets nearer. The two robots collide, 13 Black in mid-self righting mode. The noise is deafening, as 13 Black is send skidding across the arena on its back, the srimech arm completely ripped off and left spinning on the exact spot where 13 Black and Infusion collided. The Aussie robot is sent in the opposite direction, towards the arena side wall. As smoke begins to waft from the upside-down robot from Leicestershire, Aaron Knight€™s Infusion collides with the arena wall, shattering the Lexan into tiny shards.

    CEASE!!

In the interests of safety, the match is stopped for the arena wall to be repaired. However, John Denny informs the Judges that 13 Black is completely dead and cannot compete when the match restarts.

Therefore: Infusion and Lightning go through to Round 2!
