just wondering before i blow it up! i know the max voltage on a sabertooth is 24v, as anyone hooked up 2x full charged 12v packs into it and was it ok?

Input voltage: 6-24V nominal, 30V absolute max
cheers woody!
I managed to blow mine up using 24v
Andy
(It may have been something to do with me holding the wheel tight and using the motor to do it up until it locked but I think I prefer to blame the voltage- It was working fine before i did that - current limited my arse)
I have blown 2 using 24V nicads. With 26V at the terminals the sabretooths blow after a few minutes of hard running.
My advice, drop them if you are using drill motors. They are good on something low drain like bosch 35Ws
My advice is to follow the manufacturers instructions and limit the NiCads to 18 cells (nominal 21.6V flat, not 20 but as Woody states, 30V absolute maximum. As for motor power, these controllers can handle far more than 35W motors but as with any speed controller, it is always best to match the controller to the motor. If you dont know what the motor takes then its all the more difficult. Gary, there is has to something a miss with your set up that is causing the problem with the Sabretooth but no idea what.
we were looking at changing from 2 electronize to one sabertooth for our drive setup on a 12v sla battery
the motors are drill motors, the reason for changing is straight lines are a problem steering is a problem basicallly doesnt drive as it should
will this help???
Provided the motors turn at the same speed clockwise as anti-clockwise (drillmotors usually do) A dual motor speed controller such as the Sabretooth will help immensely. Specially after calibration. If you then still have problems driving in a straight line, you should look if one of the motors/geaboxes/wheels is running mor freely or binds more than the other.
so will this one be the right sort for our above setup? we may change to some better batteries nicads/nimhs will this still be ok?

Alexander I would go for the 25A version. I have also burnt out a dual 10A speedo in sting and that had a large heatsink and fan added to it.
