Thread: Robot SMASH!! Series 2: Recharged!

    Woo... good fights

Hmmm... now this should be an interesting fight.
My shape should make me pretty safe from razer at the front, in a head on collision I suspect Id get under him rather than the other way round. In addition my nice titanium foam layer is ideal for resisting a vertical claw weapon anyway, not only is the beak more likely to get lodged in it but just the extra padding means that it really isnt likely to ge through to anything imporant. Fortunatly the big arcs at the top should protect the axe mechanism because the claw wont be able to get over it to do any damage.

More of a worry is if it gets to my back section, but hopefully with my speed that shouldnt be too much of an issue. The main thing I need to aim to do is break its srimech then flip it, or, flip it and attack the sides hoping to rupture the drive or some such.

Oh and side note.... havign just watched razer vs terrorhurtz Im not going to fire my axe unless I get underneath him first or am at the sides, as otherwise hell get under me during the axe based bounce and Ill be in a pickle

    Razer ( vs. Black Panther

Sorry Alex, but Im going to have to go with Razer to dump you in the pit.

    Heat M Final
    Razer ( v Black Panther

To get to this stage Razer ( let Weapon Synergy deal with Holepunch, and then in round 2 pierced Blue Sparks€™ tracks and then pitted the powerful spinner.

The newcomer Black Panther was targeted in round 1 by D.V.D: The Sequel, but Alex€™s axe robot proved too strong and whacked the veteran repeatedly before pitting it, letting Blue Sparks stay in the background. In round 2 this promising robot took on the 5 20kg clusters of Weapon Synergy, confining four to the pit and flipping the Flipper after piercing the nitrogen bottle.

    SMASH!!

You really couldn€™t get two opponents that look any different. There€™s the slick silver wedge with that impressive crushing claw known as Razer, and then on the other hand you have the odd semi-UFO design of Black Panther with the dual weapons and sleek black frame. Razer may be the seeded machine, but it€™s the newcomer that gets off to a better start here with Black Panther ramming into the front of Razer and managing to get underneath the low front wedge with the linear actuated flipper, which Alex uses now to flip Razer up and over sideways! Martijn quickly tries to self-right, but Alex turns into the base armour of Razer to stop it self-righting and lands an overhead blow on the crusher, breaking off the self-righting wing not touching the ground! However the important one in this moment in time is the other, still intact wing and Razer uses that to good effect now in order to get back onto those wheels. The two-time Robot Wars World Champion quickly skids away and turns to get under the side of Black Panther, a move not foreseen by Alex Holt at the controls! Martijn powers forward now and the crusher comes down, but comes onto the very top of Black Panther where the axe is hinged, and there€™s no damage to be done there. Alex fires the axe and the bounce frees him from Razer€™s wedge and Alex turns Black Panther into the side of Razer again, but it€™s the not the side that Razer won€™t be able to self-right from, so instead of flipping the seeded machine Alex merely pounds him with the axe, forcing the crusher into the downward position and in doing so getting a series of heavy impacts on the other self-righting wing! Martijn braces himself for the worse and the wing is quickly broken off, and of course Alex wastes no time in overturning Razer with his low power flipper, leaving the number #8 seed stranded on its side!

    CEASE!

Razer ( is given the chop; Black Panther prowls through to the series semi-finals!

    Coming Next, Heat N:
    Liar 2 (6) v Cat with Wheels v MeCannibal 2.0

Sorry these next 2 fights are short, I couldnt find another good way to do them

Welcome back to Robot SMASH!! , where tonight will see the return of the number #6 seed Liar 2, who reached the quarter-finals last time around. With only three heats left it€™s looking pretty certain this tournament will be completed, so let€™s get one step closer to that ever-approaching goal that is the series semi-finals!

    Eliminator 1

Created and entered by Martijn M Benschop, seeded #6, Liar 2!
This Wheely Big Cheese style invertible flipper robot with thwackbot capabilities has a full pressure rear hinged flipper on board and has proved in the past that it can send opponents sky high. However the wheels are exposed, no matter how tough they are.

In RS!!1: Sent Cyrilium 2 up, up and away with no trouble at all in the first round eliminator, and then in round 2 sent each 20kg cluster of Weapon Synergy over and out with some mighty flips. In the heat final there was a tougher match with Gabriel II, but eventually the front hinged flipper ended up in the pit and Liar 2 moved onto the finals, where it met eventual champion Wedge Devolution. It was a tough match with Liar 2 getting some flips and causing some damage with the side spikes, but it was no good and the Wedge continued to the series semi-finals.

Created and entered by Danny Bailey, Cat with Wheels!
A very simple wedge with a front hinged flipper design, this robot is painted the colour of a Tabby cat€™s coat. The actual name is if Cats Had Wheels We Could Have Cat Races, but this shortened name is far easier! Wedge Devolution proved last season simple can be good, can Cat with Wheels repeat that success?

    In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter

Created and entered by Paul Cuomo, MeCannibal 2.0!
This extremely powerful shuffling ring spinner has a skirt around the robot that raises when the ring spins. There is plenty of shock proofing, but the power of the ring may cause MeCannibal control issues like last season.

In RS!!1: Life and Death died when they came face to face with MeCannibal 2.0 in the eliminator, but in the second round it was met by Seung Mina IV, who flipped it around before putting it in the pit.

    Roboteers, standby!

    SMASH!!

This match gets off to a very quick start, with the ring shaped MeCannibal very quickly becoming a blur as the 30kg spinning ring gets going, quickly becoming a blur as it shuffles across the arena to meet Liar 2! Paul tries to get to the wheels, but Martijn has better manoeuvrability and slides the low front of the flipper under MeCannibal without getting touched by the spinning blades! With a flick of the flipper MeCannibal is tossed into the air and comes down onto its side, ripping out chunks of the arena floor before crashing back down onto the arena floor! Liar 2 heads in again quickly before the ring gets spinning again and pushes in underneath MeCannibal 2.0, this time getting right in underneath and flipping MeCannibal sky high, and Danny (who once again hasn€™t done anything, because the other robot has taken care of things!) watches with awe as MeCannibal crashes down onto the camera tracks, leaving the arena and the competition earlier than last season, sadly for Paul.

    CEASE!

A very fast match, and MeCannibal 2.0 is spun out; Liar 2 (6) and Cat with Wheels go through!

    Eliminator 2

Created and entered by Steven McGregor, Turbo Tails!
This box wedge with a front hinged flipper and a rear spinning blade is well-known for being a classic video game character alongside Sonic the Hedgehog. It€™s weapons may be nice, but the srimech won€™t work properly a lot of the time and it is covered in fur!

In RS!!1: Became locked in a deadly embrace with Sheer Heart Attack 2 in round 1, and the judge€™s gave it to the Crash and Burn Tournament 2 champion.

Created and entered by Joey McConnell, Phoenix Down!
A parallelogram with invertible tracks powered by LEM-200s, this powerful rammer has interchangeable weapon bays with the standard setup being a claw at the front and a saw at the back. However the inverted wedge won€™t help matters, and like its predecessor it could really go down.

In RS!!1: (as Fire and Ice) Met up with Shadow Zone Returns in the first round and was tossed around the arena and out of the competition.

Built by WJ, Dijkstra (or however it€™s spelt, sorry!), entered by Andrew Jackson, Gravity!
This RW7 competitor reached round 2 of the semi-finals back then, throwing Dantomkia out of the arena in a record time of 6 seconds in the round before. The powerful rear hinged flipper also flipped Growler with ease in the House Robot Rebellion.

In RS!!1: Almost flipped Killotine: EVO out of the arena in round 1, but was clamped and pitted.

    Roboteers, standby!

    Booth 1: Steven McGregor
Booth 2: Joey McConnell, Andrew Jackson

    SMASH!!

Three veterans who all went out in the first round of the first season, and only one of them has to repeat that horror. However that horror comes back to Phoenix Down pretty quickly in the quickest match of Robot SMASH!! so far as the Dutch flipper Gravity gets under the inverted wedge (ignoring the sparks from the saw) and pushes Joey towards the wall in 3 seconds and flips it out in 4, with cease being called in 5!

    CEASE!

It doesn€™t much quicker than that, Phoenix Down goes up and then down; Gravity and Turbo Tails fly on through!

    SMASH!!

Two extremely powerful flippers do battle in this bout, one of them also has thwackbot capabilities, is invertible and is seeded, but has a narrow area of attack and the question is will the realie Gravity pick up on that? Andy certainly hopes so, as he dodges the front of Liar 2 and tries to bring his own flipper under the rear end of Martijn€™s vapour, but Liar 2 swings around and spins Gravity away with a smack from the side spike. No real damage, but Liar 2 will get aggression points should this match go to a judge€™s decision. However Andy doesn€™t plan on a judge€™s decision just yet and gets in under the rear of Liar 2, ramming forward to get the seeded machine riding high on the wedge before he fires the flipper to send Liar 2 flying up into the air! A few seconds of air-time and Liar 2 is back on the arena floor with a CRASH(!), driving a short way away from Gravity before turning to try and get under the rear ground clearance, but Andy is too quick and swerves around to get the front of the flipper under Liar 2 again, and with another might effort from the colossal flipper Liar 2 gets thrown up into the air again, sailing through the air before landing just inside the arena wall! Quickly Martijn heads back into the centre of the arena and finally gets his own flipper under the rear ground clearance of Gravity, firing it to let Andy get some air time for himself, but Gravity lands well short of the arena wall and still on its wheels, allowing Andy to go straight back on the attack and get under the side of Liar 2 this time, ramming the seed across the arena and firing the flipper as the two career towards the arena wall! However Liar 2 was too far up the flipper and is thrown backwards off the wedge, landing behind Gravity with the flipper ready! Martijn gets underneath and flips, but again Gravity goes more up than across and lands just inside the wall, ramming under the side of Liar 2 again before pushing it across the arena and suddenly ending the match with one last big effort from that flipper that none of us really expected right now as Liar 2 seemed to be coming back strongly, but it€™s all over and Liar 2 teeters on the rails for a whole two seconds before finally wobbling on the wrong side of the wall and hitting the camera tracks, and it€™s that sound that marks the end of Liar 2€™s run in this season of Robot SMASH!! .

    CEASE!

Liar 2 (6) lied way too much; Gravity continues to defy gravity!

    Heat Semi-Final 2

    SMASH!!

Both of these machines have front hinged flippers, though Tails also has a horizontal spinning bar on the rear of that box wedge design. What we are wondering at the start of this bout is who will join Gravity in the heat final and whether or not Turbo Tails€™ srimech will prove potent enough to get Steven€™s third robot into the semi-finals. We€™re about to find out soon though as the two robots meet head on, their ground clearances cancelling each other out before Cat reverses around and gets under the side of Turbo Tails before pushing in underneath and causing the rear blade to hit the floor with a CLANG! However right now the focus is on Cat with Wheels, who is right underneath Turbo Tails and fires the flipper, sending Steven tumbling over onto his back! Danny reverses a little while watching Turbo Tails as Steven fires the flipper hopefully, trying to get Tails back onto its wheels and back into this match, but it€™s no good and it seems Sonic€™s buddy is out of Robot SMASH!! again.

    CEASE!

A very fast match as Turbo Tails jets out of the contest; Cat with Wheels goes onto the heat final!

    And so...
