Best of the Best - Greatest Fights 2008 Nominations!

[Thanks to Steve in advance for giving me the official okay on this (that means allowing me to use his voting system from Greatest RW Moments on the FVA Forum)]

Yes, this is based on the Robot Wars Greatest Moments thing on the FVA Forum. Its the Best of the Best, the Greatest Fights! I thought this would be a good idea since we have a lot of people now and that we can have different opinions on what we think are good battles.

Basically, post here nominations for the 20 battles on the RW and FRA Forums (and some others that even I dont know about :P) you thought were the best since...this whole thing started! They can be anywhere between here and that time since vapourboteering came into being. (Thats approximately from 2001 (when NSBFL started) to right now) There are some matches that are lost, but you can find some of them in the FRA and RW Forum archives through the Wayback Machine, if its feeling better. :P In Steves words, Each will be allocated a certain number of points as a result of their ranking to aid in winner-pickin.

Also, ta to Steve (and Tom Roper), heres how the points system will work for your nominees:


1st = 12 points
2nd = 10 points
3rd = 9 points
4th = 8 points
5th = 7 points
6th = 6 points
7th = 5 points
8th = 4 points
9th = 3 points
10th = 2 points
11th - 20th = 1.9, 1.8 etc to 1.0

If its OK with you, Im not going to vote. I do have a few favourites, but...

1: I dont think there are 20 of them.
2: Even if there were, itd be very difficult to rank.

To be honest, Chris, thats exactly the kind of post I DIDNT want to see. :sad: I wanted people to try and remember the past battles for the greatness that they were.

And I personally dont see how difficult it would be to rank them, really.

I see where Chris is coming from here€¦ I would also personally find it hard to remember every battle on every forum from the past 6 or 7 years and rank them all. Can I make a suggestion to change this simply to a Vapourbot form of Greatest Moments? Coming up with 20 defining moments would be easier than remembering the 20 greatest battles, if that makes any sense. Of course, we could include memorable battles within those 20 moments as well. Just a suggestion.

Im afraid I have to concur - no offense to writers but after a while I just forget how well somethign was written and just remember who won except in a more general sense of how that writer was doing at that general point in time - unless of course I had any particular interest in the outcome such as a final with me in it.

AJs suggestion of a general event type list makes more sense to me.

ahhh yes, a brave try Kody, very brave, but I also very much like Andy and Alex suggestions of making this a greatest moments rather than a greatest fights nominations

things like the birth of this or that tourney or the run of this or that vapourbot in this or that tourney or the joining of this or that member or the thrilling lineup in this or that ultimate heat of doom or, of course, a single great fight, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

Im very sorry if it looks like were trying to take over your thread mr Kody, but were just some people with some crazy ideas of ourselves :wink:

mkay, if Kaned be so nice to perform said chane we can get this underway, even though Kody had some remarks pointed at him regarding the initial set-up, this thing looks very promising to me!
