The NCC70s are probably a little on the small size if you are running at 36v. The 4QDs are normally quite robust unless the response times have been modified. But at 36v, your stall current could be in the 200amp range and probably peaks well above what the NCC70 will safely handle.
However, you say the problem is intermittent. It is most likely a loose connection or dodgy relay.
