Liar 2 vs. Nitro-Gene 4.0
Liar 2 is a Wheely Big Cheese style axlebot flipper. Its two large wheels are driven by LEM130 motors giving a top speed of 22mph. The armouring consists of 6mm Hardox wheels, 5mm Hardox for the main body and variable amounts of Hardox on the flipper between 4mm and 7mm. The flipper is powered by 1000psi Nitrogen and works both ways up. Either side of the wedge are two large spikes to slam into opponents by spinning.
Nitro-Gene 4.0 is another powerful flipper. It is box wedge in shape and has tapered sides and rear to protect against spinners. It is also driven by two LEM130 motors and similarly has a top speed of 22mph. It also has 5mm Hardox for the main body and 6mm Hardox for the flipper. And guess what? It also has a 1000psi Nitrogen powered flipper.

ACTIVATE!
Both robots head off straight towards each other and meet head to head in the middle of the arena. Nitro-Gene uses its extra traction to get under the wedge and get its flipper under Liar 2, and throws it high into the air! Liar 2 bumps down upside down, as Paul drives Nitro-Gene in for another attack, catching Liar 2 side on and flips it again. Liar 2 again tumbles through the air and them comes back down to Earth with a bang. Nitro-Gene comes in for yet another attack but this time drives right up onto the wedge of Liar 2. It€™s Martijn€™s turn to fire the flipper and Nitro Gene gets thrown several feet across the arena! Coming down right side up, Nitro-Gene quickly gets back in on the attack and gets under the side of Liar 2, and this time decides to push it towards the arena wall, and flips!
Liar 2 is launched upwards, hits the polycarbonate screening and bounces back down into the arena! Nitro-Gene is first to react and slides back under Liar 2 and throws it back into the centre of the arena. Paul drives Nitro-Gene back in for another attack, but again rides up the wedge of Liar 2 and Martijn flips again! Nitro-Gene thumps down onto its back, but the flipper is quickly operated and Nitro-Gene stylishly does a 540-degree flip and lands back on its wheels. Liar 2 drives in to meet it but the skirting prevents the Dutch robot from getting under. Paul moves Nitro-Gene side by side with Liar 2 and attempts a flip but misses the side of Liar 2 and flips itself over! Nitro-Gene again performs a nice flip back to its wheels, but Liar 2 is waiting and slides under Nitro-Gene€™s side for a flip! Nitro-Gene is thrown backwards and lands down dangerously close to the arena wall.
Liar 2 quickly advances and gets under before Nitro-Gene can self-right and flips again! This time it is Nitro-Gene who bounces off the screens and back into the arena upside down. Paul fires Nitro-Gene€™s flipper to self-right but it fails to make it back to its wheels! The flipper is fired again and Nitro-Gene jumps back over with a distinctly less impressive flip. Liar zooms into the action and rides straight up the front wedge of Nitro-Gene, who immediately responds with a flip, throwing Liar 2 over. Nitro-Gene comes in on the charge but Martijn turns Liar 2 to face it right at the last moment€¦ and Liar flips! Nitro Gene gets flung high overhead and lands down outside the arena.
CEASE!
Nitro-Gene 4.0 is left out of the arena and Liar 2 progresses!
Acuse me of being annoyed at that fight - which is a fantastic battle AJ, very brilliant - but Ive been to live events and one thing that robot dont do when they hit the Plexiglass protecting the audience is fall back into the ring - they slide down it and the robot still in the ring wins by an OOTA! And you wrote this in TWICE! My turn came before Liars, so that means I should have won. But I havent
Sorry AJ - I know its a bit mean of me to rant about me losing, but its not that. Its the EXTREME inaccuracy that cost me the win. The loss, Im fine with, but not that inaccuracy.
Can I ask for a rematch, or is that being selfish?

In my defence Paul, the AJWars arena is very different to those at live events. The surrounding frame protecting the audience is pyrimidal in shape and specifically designed to limit OOTAs as much. Perhaps my poor Paint skills dont show this. The OOTA attempts which hit the frame occured above the arena and the robots fell back down within the arena walls. Apologies if it was not as clear as I thought it was. If you truely beleive the fight was inaccurate, and Martijn agrees, I guess a rematch is possible. However, Im more inclined to beleive it is an inaccurate understanding of the arena rather than an inaccurate reflection of reality on my behalf.
mkay, if the arena indeed is a pyramid, the walls are aimed inwards a bit, which means theyre closer to the bots, wich means there more likely to be hit by a thrown bot
whats your opinion about it now Paul?
Well, when I saw the drawing the arena, the scale between the walls and the pyramid around shows that the walls of the pyramid are much too high to deflect another robot. So maybe it is the drawing of the arena thats the problem, but that only makes me less happy about the result.
But if you dont wish to do a rematch, its fine by me.
Even if I lose, having my bot in one of these well written battles is worth it.
Well if Liar 2 was too far from the wall, then I can clearly see an OOTA failing, but if its right near the wall, it can also happen just as the bot passes over the wall because the screen is too near. Id agree if Liar 2 went too far horizontally, but I dont think that happened.
What I saw happen is that Liar went vertically more than horizontally, passed the wall and immediately hit the screen, and was deflected back into the arena on an angle. AJ can correct me if Im TOTALLY off the mark, though.![]()

I hate to add to more vodka to the punch there, but Ive seen quite a few bots bounce of the polycarb walls reflect towards the center of the arena again, this includes some of my own botsId just take it on the chin Paul ;-) It could have been worse, you could lose because your ring spinner supposedly didnt have teeth
