Thread: An "Experiment" Tournament

  1. #1
Looking for 4 people to enter 1 bot each into a bit of an experimental idea I have

    Rules:
    100kg wheeled robots only.
    No clusters.
    No Spinners.
    RFL standard combat rules.

Arena: Octagon shaped arena, 10m between opposing walls. Walls are 500mm tall. 1000mm push-out zone in the arena wall at the top of the arena. A hammer on the left wall. A clamping jaw that will hold an opponent for 10 seconds on the right wall. Pit in the very middle of the arena, triggered by a punch panel on the bottom wall. Keeps pit open for 10 seconds.

These battles will be very different to normal battles. Will require me to email/msn entrants regularly. Ill be posting the battles on Vapourbot Resource, but will link each battle here.

    Ill enter =)

    Name: Woodpecker
    Weight: 100kg
    Armour: 4mm Hardox.
    Speed: 18mph - powered by 2 Sinclair C5 motors running at 24v.
Shape: Box wedge with sloped sides, a rounded back and scooped front.
Weapon 1: A cam-driven axe mechanism, powered by a 60v Briggs and Stratton 11kW motor. (Interchangeable).
Weapon 2: A flipping arm, powered by a 60v Briggs and Stratton 11kW motor. (Interchangeable).
Strengths: Fastest axe mechanism currently around (hypothetically of course, this is only a vapour after all€¦ )
Weaknesses: The weapon itself is not very destructive, but mainly shows dominance in terms of number of this it can do.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front due to a sharpened Titanium front and side skirts, 4mm at rear.
Srimech: Invertible, but the axe mechanism has enough power in it to right it back onto its wheels.
Notes: The axe-head is based on Dominator 2€™s, and has small Titanium spikes on each end to aid in self righting. The axe-head is make of Titanium, with a 5mm Hardox tip. The flipper arm is made entirely out of 10mm Aluminium. The robot has 4 wheels get up in a skid steer system and runs off 2 Sinclair C5 motors @ 24v. Each side is connected to each other by a heavy duty rubber belt, and the wheels are made entirely out of Vulcalore. The weapon systems run off a 60v Briggs and Stratton 11kW motor geared down 15:1. The motor is connected to a cam wheel which in turn moves the weapon up and down on its pivot. When running at 60v, the weapon can move just under 5 times a second. The emphasis is not on power, but in dominance and aggression.

    That was quicker then expected

Can I reserve a spot, Id like to try something but its not quite ready yet?

    Id like to enter:

    Holepunch
    Weight: 100kg

    Length: 100cm
    Width : 70cm
Height: 40cm at the top of the beak, 28cm at the top of the armour.

Armour: 40mm Hdpe and 8mm 7075 aluminium baseplate.

Speed: 13mph - powered by 2 wheelchair motors running overvolted at 36v. with 150mm wheels
Shape: Razer-esqe looks, wedge at the front, a bit more boxy with rounded edges at the back.

Weapon: A Pneumatic crusher (yes i said Pneumatic) with a 250mm bore 120mm stroke full pressure 7075 aluminium 15mm wallthickness ram, giving a massive 25+ tonnes of force on the ram. this is levered down 2:1 giving 12.5 tonnes of force at the tip.
The Ram is fed by 4 burkert valves from 4 corners of the ram providing maximum flow to the ram. The beak is retracted by 2 gas springs at the front under the beak still protected from the sides.

Strengths: Very fast working beak, with tremendous force. The gear ratios on wheelchair motors provide a lot of pushing power all be it not very fast.

Weaknesses: This thing guzzles gas like a Hummer sucks petrol. I only have 5 to 7 good bites before the gasbottle starts to drain depending on the weather. To save weight I had to go for a slow drive. Selfrigting is also not garantueed.

Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front due to a sloaped front that scrapes the floor. 10 mm at the rear.

Srimech: when lucky it rolls over when the beak is in top position due to the low centre of gravity.

Notes: Still in development, so it is probably going to have some teething problems.
