Thread: The Roaring Donkey mini-tournament

  1. #91
Franks comments are true, but hold no real water in this fight. Ive got wedges, more drive speed, more pushing power, more tooth edge to hit with and more torque behind my weapon. Neither of us have the power to damage the others hardox armour (I can damage his titanium bits though), so he has no armour advantage, or power advantage...

Tactics are to go head to head with 6isc. Ill be able to wedge him at his wheels or near those domes and push him into the wall. If I can get to the sides, Ill use those spikes to flip him. Keep attacking them and damage the dome bits as much as possible. It might not cause hindering damage, but damage is damage and thats what the judges care about. Use the more powerful drive on Resonance to give 6isc no space. Just keep ramming, pushing, and attacking like crazy.

Oh its on like donkey kong!

You can reverse at full speed Frank and Ill still be pushing you. My Speed Your Speed... You can turn, but you also 200mm wider then me, which means youll turn slower as well.

The deciding factor of this battle will be that my render is just so much better then yours

SNES version of course!!! N64 version was just Banjo Kazooie with the DK characters chucked into it...

Oh wow. I didnt actually think Id beat Resonance. Kudos to Joey, and commiserations to Aaron.

    Play-off
    Resonance vs. The 6isc

Id go with The 6isc to win here.

    FINAL
    Macduff the 2nd vs. Envy

Ah, Mr. Swan, we meet at last. Ive seen videos of Envy, and its one hell of a machine (not to mention that I really like it ), so this isnt going to be easy by a long shot. Thus I will not take Envy lightly. I am tempted to use Set-up 3, which is the lowered spikes, so I can get under Envys front easier, but the fact remains that if he flips me, then Im pretty much fodder as the spikes wont work inverted, and Im not taking any chances. So, I will go with the set-up I had with the match with Rupture, which is Set-up 4 (the front skirt), meaning I can use the skirt if I get flipped.

Basically using this set-up I will try to get under Envy from anywhere I can, preferably the sides or the rear but if I get him from the front that wont be too bad. My skirts should help against that flipper of Envys, but even so, I wont let him get to my sides or rear without a fight. Will try to outmanoeuvre Envy and leave him open to an attack (which is hard, I know ). then, once Ive wedged Envy, thanks to the design of the front of Macduff, he shouldnt be able ride off of it, and then...PIT!!!

Summary: Face Envy with front skirt, ram, outmanoeuvre, wedge him onto the skirt, pit pit pit! Avoid leaving sides and especially the rear vulnerable.

    Good luck Shane.

    PLAY OFF

Booth 1, left hand side: Frank Goacher
Booth 2, right hand side: Aaron Knight

Two very similar robots here, and the battle starts slowly, both machines spinning up their weapons, before The 6isc makes the first move, moving down towards the far end of the arena as it lines itself up for a good hit on Resonance. Resonance moves forwards, turning to keep its weapon facing the opponent, and comes in, speeding up for a charge...The 6isc moves out of the way, but Resonance turns in, and The 6isc inadvertently drives straight into the drum!
CRASH! And its Resonance who goes flying! The 6isc jolts backwards as well, but its weapon appears to have had the upper hand in that particular collision...Resonance lands, not too shaken, and begins to spin up again, as The 6isc moves around, trying to get at the sides...Resonance is attempting to stop that, and the robots are moving in a slow waltz, it would appear. The 6isc tries to dummy Resonance...Resonance goes in, but The 6isc turns and goes for the wheel pod!
CRASH! Amidst the sparks, something goes flying - Resonance has lost one of its wedges again! The wedge is now on the floor, while the springs holding it in are poking in something of a mess out of the wheel area - but The 6isc is sporting a huge dent in its wheel covers as well - Resonance managed to get its weapon in too! The robots approach each other tentatively again...Resonance comes in...The 6isc backs off briefly...and turns into the wheel cover again!
CRASH! Resonance goes over again! It lands on the flame grid, which obligingly flares up as it drives away. The 6isc drives forward again, Frank wanting to get at Resonances wheels, but it moves too late, and Resonance comes straight in...theres a moment when nothing happens, the teeth on the weapons not being able to catch each other, but then...
CRASH! Both machines go flying, but Resonance more impressively - Aaron is getting a lot of Air Miles today, it would seem. Resonances weapon doesnt have enough energy to be the winner of a weapon-to-weapon hit...The 6isc is spinning up again, and Resonance is as well...but its shaking! The weapon slows down somewhat, and one of the teeth has been broken by that previous hit - it cant spin at high speed without losing balance, and The 6isc seems to know this, as it goes straight in!
CRASH! That drum isnt spinning any more, and Resonance is now up against the wall, stuck between a rock and a hard place. The 6isc comes in, and turns slightly to get a good shot in...
CRASH! Another wedgelet goes flying! Resonance isnt doing too well here...The 6isc backs away, and Resonance tries to get away, but it doesnt seem to be mobile on the right hand side, its just moving in circles now. The weapon is spinning, but not very well, and The 6isc waits its moment...Resonance turns, but in doing so goes broadside on...and The 6isc comes in...
CRASH! Resonance bounces up, but its wheel cover has come loose! One side of it is hanging down, scraping the floor, and Resonance cant manage anything more than twitchy movements from its left side...
CRASH! The 6isc isnt showing any mercy here...and Resonance has stopped! The left hand drive chain has broken and been ripped off by that hit, and is lying uselessly on the floor now!
CRASH! And the wheel at the front has come off...theres only one winner here, and its definitely not Resonance. Aaron leans against the Lexan of his booth and stares despondently at his machine as he sets his controls down.

    CEASE

CRASH! The wheel guard on that side has completely come away now - you can see all the mechanical workings inside Resonance. It appears as if someone told Frank to stop though, finally, as The 6iscs weapon is spinning down.

Well, it was more one sided than it seemed there, really - Frank Goacher and The 6isc are the third place winners!

    Resonance 1.0, not successful...

Expect to see Resonance 1.1 back next time with 8mm Hardox and a bad assed weapon.
